newcruzer2 Posted June 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 14, 2016 I really want to simply jump into a cab at MIA to get to my pre-cruise hotel near port everglades. I know the fare generally runs between $80-100. I know there are cheaper options. My question is, having been stuck in traffic jam nightmares in other large city's. And truly being a 'worst case scenario' kinda gal. I was hoping to see if there were any nightmare stories out there, of cabs between ft lauderdale and miami. and of course the nightmare fare you ended up with. Thanks to anyone who , takes the time to share a story.
fireofficer5 Posted June 15, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2016 (edited) Here's what to do, negotiate a flat cash rate, within 10 to 20% of what you think the cost will be. I have done that, from Port Miami to Hollywood, FL. $50. It would have been $63 on the meter. Edited June 15, 2016 by fireofficer5
JohninDC Posted June 15, 2016 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2016 Uber will be cheaper than a taxi and is based upon miles travelled -- I do not believe there is any extra charge for traffic delays.
BlueHerons Posted June 15, 2016 #4 Share Posted June 15, 2016 Agree, use Uber. It is a flat rate and the driver has more incentive to get off I-95 and find faster alternatives. Between 4-7 it will take forever to get from MIA to FLL.

The uber website seems pretty simple. But as a total newbie, and scaredy- cat, Id love to get a sense of the procedure. 1. Get bag at baggage claim. 2. Use app to request ride. 3. Wait outside for car 4. App notifys me his there and what car is? CORRECT? ? ? Thank you your help (Signed) newb (lol)

Sometimes the driver will call to let you know he's near but not always. Be sure to get your new user credit if they are still offering it. You will have the ability to decline the ride. Once you accept then you will be notified when the driver is there. Uber includes not only people who do this part time but also people who drive for private limo/sedan companies who don't have a scheduled pickup.
