Upgrade Question

We have a BC guarantee on the 9/25 sailing of the Caribbean Princess. We've never sailed on Princess before. When do they usually start assigning cabin #'s on guarantee's? We're just so excited...We may be too anxious!!!

NEVER before final payment. Please don't get caught up in upgrade fever, most are in name only and the category M to suite stories you hear while likely true represent a TINY fraction of the reality.

 

Otherwise, you can see assignments from 75 days out to day of on the pier, conventional wisdom is that you are mostly locked in between 7 and 3 days. You might get some happy news about 30 days out however but that isn't necessarily the final word. Check on the availability of cabins above you, if they are gone you aren't moving.

Perhaps you have heard the expression "The Lord works in mysterious ways" - well, the upgrade fairy works in more mysterious ways than the Lord ever thought existed. Doin't count on him for an upgrade - be happy with the guarantee category you booked~!!!

Ok, It was NEVER according to Princess rep today, but you being a platinum, they probably figured you were good for the $$ BJS.

I have received upgrades before final payment a few times.

Thanks everyone! We will be extremely happy even if we keep our BC category...we got such a great rate...and besides, as long as we have a balcony, we don't care what upgrade (if any) that we get. When we booked the cruise we didn't even know it was a "guarantee", so, if we get upgraded, wonderful...if we don't not a big deal. Since we never sailed on Princess before, we just didn't know how they worked....on RCCL no one ever gets upgraded (from what I understand).

Following open cabins on internet sites like travelocity, etc. doesn't work. We booked a J guarantee on the Dawn. I followed open cabins and learned a valuable lesson. There is no sure way to figure out what category or cabin you will be assigned as we were given a J cabin that never showed open in my searches.

That may have been because the J was saved for you. The usual advise is to check on open cabins ABOVE yours, if they AREN'T open you won't be moving.

They do assign cabins long before final payment. Our experience is that we booked a BA guarantee in January and were assigned a BA (Lido) in mid April for our 10/9 CP cruise. Final payment is due July 26. Whether or not anything will change is now up to the upgrade fairy, but we will be OK no matter where we end up!

I found out our guarantee cabin assignment way before final payment last year. It showed up on the cruise personalizer in February for our cruise in July.

 

I kept watching prices and was able to switch us from an inside to an obstructed view a few weeks before final payment.
