Arrived in Seward.

One final picture of the train. Angie, Jeff, Susan, and I then climbed on the local Seward shuttle. The City of Seward operates a shuttle running around town, which is free!

Jeff and Angie wanted to look at a few shops. Susan and I found a candy store, we got a couple pieces for after lunch.

This is an animal recovery area they have. These two Sea otters were abandoned by their mothers. The Sealife Center is nursing them, helping them recover, and then eventually releasing back into the wild.

A mural accross the street from the Sealife Center. We were waiting for the shuttle to come, but a taxi dropped some people off at the Sealife center and we asked if He could take us to the small boat harbor. All four of us piled in and off we went. BTW, it was $5 for the cab ride.

As we drive we get this wonderful shot of the Norwegian Sun for the first time.

We arrive at the small boat harbor and visit the Kenai Fords Visitor Center. Not much there, but helped me understand the park better.

we catch the shuttle here, and head to the ship.

We enter the Dale R. Lindsey Alaska Railroad Intermodal Facility to check in. We part ways with Angie and Jeff since they are first time cruisers and we are latitudes members.

IMG_1996.jpg

Check-in is a breeze compared to Seattle or even Vancouver. We got to the podium and go through the payment card, the picture, health disclosure, and everything else. The lady says let me get your ship cards. She turns around and asks someone else a question, they come up and tell us to follow them. We are totally confused right now. As we are walking, it clicks, we got VIP status. They print the key cards and have them at the VIP table.

We get to the table they welcome us and hand us an envelope with the cards. They introduced us to a young man who was going to escort us onto the ship. We head towards security and I find my card is not there. We have to go back and have them print me a new card. Then we head back towards Security. Susan is super excited and she doesn't even know what VIP status is.

We clear security and head out to the ship with our escort.

WOW, Thank you for a wonderful review. I am enjoying every minute of your trip. I love the first glance of your cruise ship. It makes it real. I shared your joy and excitement.

Thank you for posting all the snow caps, glaciers and clouds. I live in Arizona and it was 104 degrees today. I hope you had a chance to stand in one of the icy streams and you share all the details.

I can feel your love of life, each other and the thrill of travel. I hope to meet you on a cruise some day. Keep up your excellent photography!! Next, the ship!

Thanks again

After climbing up the gangway, we scan our cards, get the "washy washy" spray, and meet Joaquin Dumipig, the Concierge on the Sun. He escorts us to our stateroom. Explains we can go to a special VIp breakfast each morning from 730am to 930am in La Cucina Restaurant (Deck 5 mid) and VIP lunch from noon to 130pm daily also in La Cucina.

A note about our stateroom: We sailed in this very stateroom almost nine years ago on our honeymoon cruise. Susan and I enjoyed our time in this stateroom then and I wanted to celebrate nine years sailing our favorite ship again.

We also got a $25 onboard credit to use at a restaurant of our choice. We already had the 4 nights of specialty dining, so we decided to celebrate, we would go that night to La Cucina. We hadn't planned on going to that restaurant when we made reservations.

VIP Cocktail Party, why yes!

IMG_2011.jpg

our stateroom was as far forward on deck 5 as you can go. 3 words - Dead End Hallway. This equals extra quiet stateroom!

I set up the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet for our sailing, so Susan and I had invitations to deliver to staterooms of those who shared their room number by email.

Susan, the creative one, made that. Isn't that cute?
