java spot Posted July 15, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 15, 2016 I'm taking my first cruise on the QM2 - Aug. 9 transatlantic from NYC. I just noticed that my cabin had changed from an inside double that I booked (costing 2x the published fare) to one of the newly configured KB single cabins on deck 2. Is this an upgrade despite having paid x2 and downsizing of cabin (but gaining of window?) Any reports on recent travelers of the new solo cabins? Thanks for your feedback. Aussieflyer Posted July 15, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 15, 2016 I'm not sure on the actual fare for your cruise but when I was booking recently for a WC sector, the solo cabins were more expensive than booking a normal cabin as a solo.
Underwatr Posted July 15, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 15, 2016 (edited) Your new cabin is an ocean view, so perhaps it's an upgrade. Edited July 15, 2016 by Underwatr
Rare 3rdGenCunarder Posted July 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 16, 2016 I'm not sure on the actual fare for your cruise but when I was booking recently for a WC sector, the solo cabins were more expensive than booking a normal cabin as a solo. The singles are surprisingly expensive. For a bit more, you could have an obstructed or sheltered balcony. Maybe they figure single passengers are so excited to have single cabins they don't compare prices? The singles in the old photo gallery (is that deck 2?) do look nice. If you like an ocean view, you've got BIG windows very close to the ocean.
java spot Posted July 16, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted July 16, 2016 Thanks all of you for your feedback about the solo cabin. Much appreciated. I've only ever cruised on Azamara and Oceania so this will be a very new experience for me.

AAAAmerican Posted July 16, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 16, 2016 Dear java spot, Costing you more I have seen for what is dubbed as a Solo Cabin on many Cruise Lines too is really just another way to produce revenues more. Saying one thing and doing another has become at par in the past few years by so -so many. Yet the time when that newer AKC Breed Lagotto Romagnolo was from and to think the AKC last year finally recognized it.. Two sayings: 1.) Consumer Beware 2.) Be Prepared They are such truisms Maam. Did you know about the Shareholder Benefit on all Carnival lines? Yes Cunard too? Ask your Broker/Dealer , Travel Agency etc.. Cunard will as well advise. You only need 100 shares of CCL :NYSE/LSE CUK: You may use this Shahreholder benefit on all those lines too. It is an OBC. May your voyage be well and not many swell. Which ever cabin you choose is well. The Queen Mary 2 is such a fine vessel, Captain, officers and Crew, the Kennel Master too! Once aboard find Bart Simpson in the Brass rubbing . GOD Speed! Bell Boy Posted July 16, 2016 #8 Share Posted July 16, 2016 (edited) It certainly is considered an upgrade and I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised when you see what you have been allocated. Much better than your original inside cabin. Although the 2016/17 brochures at the moment appear to list the single cabins in a category below standard inside, I expect we will see the single cabins being re-categorised in the future, as they become even more popular . Some years ago we saw the same with a 'Balcony obstructed view' versus a 'Sheltered Balcony'. The original listed category for these staterooms were revised when the sheltered proved popular. I say an upgrade although you will have to put up with a smaller bed. Here are some photos of a solo cabin on QE which were made from decreasing the size of the Casino Edited July 16, 2016 by Pennbank
tv24 Posted July 17, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 17, 2016 I took a peak at one of these new single cabins when we were on the QM2 in June. It looked very nice, clever design using the limited space. I liked the easy chair and could easily see myself wasting time lounging there comfortably. And having a window is way better than an inside cabin, IMHO.
