On the Jewel as we speak

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to get information on cabin 1054. This used to be the concierge lounge but now is a family cabin. I have this booked on a future cruise based on pictures from another concierge lounge remodel, but they aren't all the same. Any recon you can do would be appreciated.

We have been hanging out in the Diamond Lounge with some very nice, interesting folks from all over the world. We are D+ as well as suite dwellers. It has been the more fun and interesting place to meet people and have fun.

Great. We are also d plus and frequently book suites. One thing I do know about Diego. If you don't ask, he won't know what you need. Communication between the concierge and guest is important. If you want or need his services, ask him. Otherwise he has no idea your not happy!

Glad to hear you had a great experience at the Chef's Table. Is Francisco still coordinating I t? We too had a great time on our Panama Canal cruise on the Jewel last fall and are looking forward to our TA on her in Nov. Last fall I arranged a private Chef's Table with other CC members from my roll call. This year I offered to do the same and have over 25 interested in this special dinner. I'd love to contact the coordinator before biarding the ship. Might you be able to find out how to contact him.

Enjoy the rest of your cruise.

You get what you pay for.

I'll answer this nicely, even though I know you posted it in an evil spirit.

While I agree with you that in most cases, yes, you do get what you pay for, in this case it is not true. Paid more for this cruise pp than I have for Seadream and Seabourn cruises, and have received far less in terms of service, product, and common courtesy. As others have said, many staff members just don't seem happy to be here. Dinner in Giovanni's last night was tasty, but service lacking. The specialty restaurants have been very empty, yet service still spotty. Seems like folks are happy to put up with mediocre food in the MDR if that means they don't have to pay extra. I hate having to pay extra for good food, but given the option, that's what we chose to do this week. In the future, I see us sailing on other cruise lines until RC improves in this area.

I agree with others that have encouraged you to speak with Diego about your concerns. We sailed in a GS in March 2015 and were in the room right next to the CL, now a Family Suite. Diego was absolutely fabulous as were the bartenders who always remembered what we drank. We were escorted off the boat and everything was taken care of. Good luck to you!

So..... The itinerary has been great, the weather fabulous, time in the ports beyond amazing, but the crew has been lackadaisical at best, mostly disinterested at all times, and just not the friendly, happy persons that I have come to know and love on all of the other RC cruises I have been on (We are all D+ In our party). The exceptions have been the wait staff in the premium dining restaurants and Chef's Table, who have all been fabulous.

We are sailing in a large suite, and have not experienced the usual suite perks: we have seen our attendant Clinton only twice thus far. Once was on day one when we made only two requests he promised to fulfill (towels and ice daily, neither which have materialized with any regularity though we did tip up front), and the second time was when we contacted him directly with a plumbing problem, which he did address expeditiously. While the room has been made up appropriately each day, there have been no extra "treats" we are so accustomed to in every other suite we have sailed in over the past months and years recently.

The CL has been quiet, (REALLY quiet, as in only 0-6 other passengers in there with us every night) yet Anton the bartender has yet to go the extra mile to remember what we are drinking or to stock Stella for us for this week. He makes us feel like it is above him to provide us with drinks. Diego the concierge is very, very, nice but less than helpful in assisting with anything but the most minimal request. It's like pulling teeth to get him to do what other concierges did on their own accord in the past. The food in that lounge is routinely cold and stale. We will not go back there for the remainder of the cruise- it's a beautiful lounge area, but the "snotty atmosphere" by the crew is just that bad.

The concierge in the DL was friendly in the beginning, but now is ignoring everyone in his lounge, just sitting at the desk the entire time. The other passengers in the lounge are lovely and friendly, as is the bartender.

The ship itself is beautiful, the refurbs from the dry dock are apparent. Entertainment has been good, but not as spectacular as on the large ships. Food in the MDR the one night we went was abysmal, but Izumi tonight was nice, as were Giovanni's and Chops. The Chef's Table was fabulous!

Hate to post so much negativity, but am hoping RCCI will step up their game and provide the experience we all expect. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions, I'll answer as many as I can.

Sit down and write a small note to the Hotel Director and seal it in an envelope with all your complaints. I am sure you will hear back from him in

a day or two. Mention the lazy workers by name!

Not sure what you want but has 2 bed rooms one master and one with 2 twins. 2 baths. Sitting area. Looks very much like the pics I have seen of others only newer fresher decor.

I wonder if the bartender stays with the room?

Well Kmorg1234 offered so I asked the question. On the RCL site, it doesn't mention 2 bathrooms. I have heard some of the ships do and some don't, so you are saying it does?

I'm boarding the Jewel in 2 weeks and plan to meet family in Athens. Do you remember what gate/dock you were at when you docked at Piraeus?

Thanks:)

I did look around to see which terminal it was, but it was not obvious to me. If you happen to know the port, it was the ship furthest away from the terminal, nearer to the where the ferries dock. Sorry I could not tell you exactly which one it was.

We were on Jewel couple of weeks ago and docked at E11. All the cruise ships dock at gates starting with letter E.

Have a nice cruise!

I was also wondering with the time difference. Does the ship stay on the same time as Rome? Or switch in Greece? Wasn't sure how that worked. Thanks

We switched to greek time after the first sea day and then back to Italian time before the last sea day. They leave a sign in your stateroom to remind you about the time changes so it is easy.

Thanks. I was told by Royal that for Grand Suite guests - we have that upcoming on Explorer, Navigator and Jewel there was an additional concierge, in addition to the Concierge in the lounge.

You may have misunderstood. The ships you mention do have two concierge, one in DL and one in CL. Oasis may have two in the SL, not sure about Anthem.

I know there are concierges in both lounges. When we first started to book Grande Suites we were told there was an extra concierge to assist for guests in Grandes and above. I have since been told that is not the case. The only extra help is with "Genies" on select ship.

Genies only service the Star Class suites. Grand, Owners, etc.. don't qualify. But I do think there are two concierges in the Oasis SL

I was wondering, did you ever speak to Diego to let him know that you were disappointed and that you were not happy with the service from the bar service in the CL? If so, was the situation rectified?

We did not speak with him about the bar service since we stopped hanging out in the CL as we simply preferred the DL- were some very fun people there that we started dining with. We did speak with Diego re things we would like, and he was amazingly receptive and more than helpful. Like I stated upfront, he is a really, really nice guy, and gave us his personal contact info at the end. We are going to his home country in January, and wants to give us info about things to do there.
