Heather1972 Posted August 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 5, 2016 Opinions on if it is too cold to swim in the Atlantic mid April in Miami?
Capt_BJ Posted August 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 5, 2016 the way you have presented the question, the reply is totally subjective ..... issue is, what's COLD to you? I grew up on the great lakes and we'd swim in the water of lake Michigan in June .... brrrrr I've swum in lakes in Mini'sota and Wiscon' in the summer ...... brrrrrrr I now live in Florida and keep my pool at 87 in the summer ..... ahhhhhhh below 85 is COLD to me . . . I live near Cape Canav' and the ocean temp is almost ALWAYS warmer than the summer temp of a Mini' lake or even the summer Jersey Shore ..... but folks around here wear wet suits when surfing ...... COLD is open to interpretation . . .
capriccio Posted August 6, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 6, 2016 (edited) According to https://www.currentresults.com/Oceans/Temperature/florida-average-water-temperatures-in-spring.php, the average water temperature off Miami Beach is 78 in April. I live on the beach north of Fort Lauderdale and there are lots of swimmers in the ocean in April. Edited August 6, 2016 by capriccio
BlueHerons Posted August 6, 2016 #4 Share Posted August 6, 2016 People swim all year long but Spring is when the water is most refreshing. Keep in mind April is HOT down here. It will be in the mid to upper 80s.
