Sorry.. Cheers question... Cheers and GC

I was planning to load the gift cards onto sail and sign using the kiosk. To get this deal, do you need to go to guest services with them, buy cheers from them and present the gift cards for loading?

I'm confused on how they know you used a gift card for cheers if you just add them to sail and sign once on board.

Thanks for your help on what happened when it worked and where exactly you bought cheers with gift cards.

thx

I would like to hear from someone where to buy these on the ship...

You can buy them at the Lido and Atrium bars. Most other bars will have them as well. Usually there is an area on Lido that's set up to sell these & the bubbles cards (on embarkation day).

can you give me a date that he confirmed this so I can go find and screenshot it for my records? I'm on the banned site and can't find it.

I have a request, please: Anyone that posted in this thread (or even who didn't) and in the next few weeks attempts this, please come back and reply on how everything went for you. That is, if you did use your gift card for the cheers package on board, and they gave you the pre-cruise purchase price of 49.95 vs. 54.95. I am sailing in about 2 months and would love to hear the replies. Thanks!!!

I'm sailing in 1 week, I'll report when I get back 'cause I'll likely forget once we sail!

  • 2 weeks later...

Sadly, I am off the Glory.

The facts...

1. The cruise was spectacular and I loved every minute of it!

2. Cheers was awesome and put well to use- totally got my money out of it and for the eye rollers... I remember every minute of it and never was beyond buzzed lol Long days folks! Morning mimosas and bellinis and late night Alchemy drinks in the comedy club.

3. I paid the full price- the discounted price was NOT honored.

Let me tell you about the first 30 minutes of my vacation on the ship. And boy did it annoy the *ell out of me.

I boarded the ship with the GC's in hand. I went to my cabin and dropped my bags- I had FTTF. Went to Guest Services. Relayed the whole... Tried to buy Cheers months ago with the GC's and was told the system wasn't set up yet, double checked 2 days before boarding blah blah blah. I was asked for a confirmation letter etc.. I told her because there was no sale, there was no confirmation. Then I was told that she could put the GC's on the account, but I had to buy Cheers elsewhere (casino for example.) I then said, if you put the GC's on my sign and sail, what is there to "show" the person I'm buying Cheers from that I had GC's in the first place?

Bottom line I bounced around like a ping pong ball for 30 damn minutes (and this is super early in boarding and with FTTF Guest Services counter so no lines.) In the end, I just got angry, and was like, I'm not starting my vacation in a tizzy over $6 a day. So I went and bought the package at full price and orders my first of 105 alchoholic drinks. Yes folks, I made sure I got every drink I could- along with a water or two for every mojito (btw the ting mojito is flipping fabulous!!) teas, vitamin water, etc.

Am I still mad- no. But I would have rathered just a point blank no all around (not from fellow cruise critic folks, but a cohesive from Carnival. I'd love my first half hour on the ship back.

I attended the Cruise Critic Meet and Greet with the Cruise Director Eric (PHENOMENAL!!! Don't miss his comedy/magic show- the guy is AWESOME!!) and I did bring it up then. I didn't push for resolution or action, but I'm kinda disappointed that it wasn't offered to look into it.

Paying full price with the GC's is kinda a wash (the 10% savings is negated by full price) I considered paying in advance with cash then using the GC's as on board credit. While this would save the $6 plus 15%... It would also encourage me to spend more just to "use them up." I don't cruise as much as I'd like to. I decided against this and am glad I did.

Anyway, once I refused to let the cluster f*ck of trying to get the pre cruise Cheers price go and just enjoy my vacation- it was awesome. Good luck everyone!

Tess

I figured this would probably be the norm. I'm not holding my breath by any means for the discount. But like you, I'll be sure to get my 15 drink/day plus sodas, waters, virgin cocktails, etc.

Well I'm just off the Breeze waiting in my airport shuttle so thought I'd report my experience.

I went to guest services about 9:30am on day 2 of our cruise. Sailed from Galveston so Cheers isn't for sale until day 2. Waited in line (not FTTF) 20 minutes. The guest services employee immediately denied me before I could even finish talking. I expected as much so I busted out my screenshot of John Heald's post about it. He looked it over and said "if John said it's ok, it must be ok". He said I would have to apply my gift cards first. I had 12 e-cards. He offered to put them in for me or I could enter them at the kiosk. I opted to use the kiosk as to not hold up the line, but upon trying learned that you can only swipe gift cards at the kiosk, not enter the code and pin manually.

So back in line another 15 min, then spent another 10 minutes getting the cards entered in. Then I was told to go to the atrium bar just across the lobby and they would help me.

So we walked over and informed the bartender we wanted to purchase the cheers package for the discounted price. I was told I needed to go to guest services to have them do it. I informed the bartender we just came from there. She said she would need the bar manager to approve it. Ok, I thought. We can wait for the manager. Well she said she could charge me the full price then email the bar manager the request to adjust the price. Nope, i knew that wasn't gonna fly so I said I'd just wait and to call the bar manager. She said she couldn't and referred me back to guest services. I asked her if she could just call guest services and make the request for me, and when she realized I wasn't moving until this was resolved she walked over there herself.

After 5 minutes of her talking to guest services she came back and said they would send the manager. So we waited. Eventually a very nice man from Operations (wasn't the bar manager as we knew his name by this point) came down and assisted us. He confirmed everything and adjusted the cost for us.

TLDR - Yes it worked. Yes it was a huge hourlong hassle. No I wouldn't recommend it unless you wanna spend your first few hours of your cruise dealing with this.

Thanks for posting your experience. I think I'm just going to prepay for cheers and forget about it. Going to have my first drink as soon as I board. Thanks again.

Well that is good to hear.. I'm sailing out of Galveston, so Cheers wouldn't be honored onboard until the second day of sailing, cause of state laws.. So I will purchase Cheers the first day of cruise, so technically, it would for me, be a pre purchase.

I asked John Heald and this was his reply: "You are correct. We will accept the CCL gift card for Cheers pre purchases, we will allow guest to buy on ship Cheers with the CCL gift card at the pre purchase price"

Ditto. I'll use the credit card to pre-pay and will just be happy with its cash back points. Can't stand starting a vacation with a hassle.

thank you for that faithfulraider. sorry for the trouble you went thru, but appreciate you getting back and letting us all know how you made out. would you mind posting that screen shot for me. i am not on the social media website and tried to find that info on the internet, without sucess. i think i would like to try to get the reduced price onboard, if for nothing else than principle. i too was told we could, but carnival rep said they couldn't put it in writing for me. TIA
