Air Conditioner?

We've sailed many cruises on many cruise lines, but have never been on a ship where the air conditioner turns off if you don't have your sail card in a slot in the room. Which NCL ships require your sail card in a slot for the A/C to work? Will a fake card credit card work? I'm sensitive to heat and don't want to leave for an excursion to come back to a hot room.

Yeah anything will work in the slot. I usually stay a night in a hotel the day before and keep the hotel room key and use that. I like my room cold

The air conditioner remains active even with a card pulled out of the slot. The lights will shut off, however.

The outlets also shut off - so don't try to charge anything while out of the room without putting something in the slot.

On Getaway and Escape, I do not recall the air conditioning being subject to the card slot. There are reasons for this.

 

Most any card will do, you can even go to Guest Services and request a room key only card.

 

The stateroom attendant may or may not remove it occasionally, but mostly will not.

If this is an issue make SURE you ask your steward to NOT remove it , also we put a small magnate on the back so it will stick to the wall just above the slot if you do take it out

The 4 newest ships - Epic, BA, GA and Escape have the card slots for the lights. Any card will do, like your hotel room key card. Don't bother queueing up at Guest Services to ask for a blank card, you can use anything. Some room stewards use a piece of cardboard paper if they do not see a card in slot.

 

The room steward will not take your card away. When you leave room, pull it up a bit, but leave card in slot, and when you return, just push it down.

Even a folded piece of paper will work, to keep the lights on. Or, use a grocery store reward card....basically anything that tells the system that something is in the slot....

 

It would take more energy to cool or heat the room every time you return than it takes to keep it at a constant temp...

On the Escape, there were charging ports (USB) by the bed, they worked during the night when our lights were off.

Cause you had your card in the slot. If you remove the card the lights and outlets won't work. The outlets work if the lights are off as long as the card is there.

In a balcony I have always found that as long as the thick curtain is kept closed the room stays cool anyway so never had a need to leave the A/C on.
