Hey all! For anyone who has sailed out of Jacksonville (whether Elation or Fascination), how long does it take to sail out of the port, down the river, and to the ocean? Just trying to plan departure day and where to be on the ship (and when!). :) Thanks!

Wow, that's a good question. I want to say it's about a 90 minute cruise from the port to the ocean. Just a guess though as I've never really timed it.

We've sailed out of Jax several times and I think we've had to leave our viewing position on the Sports deck to get ready for 6PM dinner before reaching the ocean.

As everyone above has posted, 45 mins (rare), 70-90 mins most of the time. And you are correct, down the river is the right term! The St. Johns River flows North from Central/South Florida to Mayport:)

If you want to watch sail away, and the under the bridge excitement, then try to be on an open deck, aft or forward around 4:20-5:15pm, depending on sailing time.

If you like the scenic experience along the river, stay on an open deck until you reach the N. Jetty Park, Huguenot Park. (5:30pm or so) After that, nothing else to see but channel markers.:) Early Dining, Music and the Casino opening are next up...:D
