Escape in Shorts

I haven't sailed NCL since last year, as we sail on several different cruise lines. We were in the Haven last time and just a balcony this time. The Escape is a very nice ship and very clean. NCL now permits shorts, t shirts and flip flops in ALL of the diniing rooms. It will be much easier to pack if I decide to cruise on them again. We enjoy dressing up a little bit for dinner and it felt strange to have someone next to me in a baseball hat, long board shorts and a t shirt with flip flops for dinner. In addition, as others have posted, the smokiness of the ship was so bad that we will not sail on Escape again. The casino is open to everything and on certain decks, the only way to get from one end to the other is to go through it. You cannot "escape" it. If you have asthma, this is NOT the ship for you. Remember the "old" days when people dressed nicely to fly? Everyone treated everyone with respect. Now, everyone looks like they are going to the gym and it is a me first mentality. Now it's on your ships. This cannot go well. No more joking about Carnival; they may be a step up....

Wow...that is pretty big news. Personally, I'm surprised to only be hearing this for the first time now.

Do you know when this change took place? I'm just wondering how I missed it.

FWIW...You were probably busy with other things, but you forgot to include your Escape cruise in your signature.

It's been reported here numerous times before. I think only Le Bistro and one other venue on the ship shorts are not allowed.

You've managed to draw the ire of the "DINNING" :D;) Room snobs, the Wife Beater/T-shirt crowd, the Smokers AND the Non-smokers!

Is there no ROFL icon on this forum?

Btw, did you also adjust/remove your daily/discretionary service charge, tips, auto-gratuity?

First...if that is the case the OP is relaying false information. Second, the OP wasn't just talking about shorts...they said "shorts, t-shirts, and flip flops" were allowed in ALL dining rooms.

Just looking for the facts....

Not doubting that this was your experience, but it certainly wasn't ours on our August trip. In fact, I remember a gentleman in front of us at the Manhattan dining room being asked, ever so politely to please step to one side, where it was pointed out that his shorts and flip flops were not accepted in the dining room, but he was free to choose to eat elsewhere ( the Garden Cafe was an option) or change into closed-toe shoes and longer shorts ( he had more *beach-type * shorts on)

I checked with the Matre D. She informed me that NCL is taking the Freestyle to the dress code. We didn't dine in the specialty restaurants, but I did see people in line for those in shorts as well. For the record, I didn't say I was unhappy with the service I received on the Escape. The staff was wonderful. As for me, I spend my week in workout clothes as I enjoy my exercise classes several days a week. On Sunday I dress for church, my choice. When I go on vacation, half the fun, for me, is dressing nicely and looking my best for my husband, my handsom date. I personally feel that the Manahattan room should not permit shorts and the like. My opinion....

On Escape, there ARE dress codes for the restaurants. They are either "Cruise Casual" or "Smart Casual".

CRUISE CASUAL

Dress cruise casual anytime during the day, in the buffet and in most specialty restaurants. For women, it includes summer and casual dresses, skirts, regular or capri pants, shorts, jeans and tops. Khakis, jeans, shorts and casual shirts are fine for men.

SMART CASUAL

Dress smart casual in our more formal dining room or in our more upscale specialty restaurants. For women, it includes slacks or jeans, dresses, skirts and tops. For men, it's jeans or slacks with a collared shirt and closed-toed shoes.

If the OP doesn't want to see t-shirt/shorts, the OP can just dine in the "Smart Casual" restaurants.

The Manhattan room is "Cruise Casual".

Dress Code: Resort casual and shorts are allowed in all dining venues except Bayamo and Le Bistro after 5:00pm. Shoes and shirt must be worn. - NCL Dailies
