Taylor95 Posted October 4, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Are any of these tender ports? Roatan, Harvest Caye, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. All of these ports have a cruise ship pier and should be able to dock. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Roatan is usually tendering?? Have you ever even been on a Western Caribbean Cruise? None of these ports are tendered.
Seanote Posted October 4, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Huh? Roatan is usually tendering?? Have you ever even been on a Western Caribbean Cruise? None of these ports are tendered. NCL docks at the Coxen Hole pier in RoHo.. The pier can service one ship only. If more than one ship is calling on Coxen Hole, the other(s) will have to tender. They will usually rotate week to week if more than one is scheduled on a particular day.

Yes I have, more than once. Roatan was tendering for us last December on NCL Jade. Royal's Liberty OTS was in port and they get priority. Sometimes another ship can dock for an hour or so if they get there first, but once Royal arrives they have to leave and anchor off. If Royal is not scheduled I don't know who gets the spot. mabones Posted October 4, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Last March we were on the Jade and were tendered into port. Dawn had the Dock. We were not in Mahogony Bay.

I guess NCL doesn't want to do business with Carnival and go into their beautiful port of Mahogany Bay. I've been going to Roatan since it was nothing (and still is in my opinion) after Hurricane Dean destroyed the pier at Costa Maya in August, 2007. I was on a Carnival ship shortly after that and Roatan was suddenly the new darling of the cruise industry as a replacement port. And it was nothing! Coxen Hole, owned by RCCL, consisted of a pier, a beat up old Air Stream travel trailer for an office and a chain link fence that protected cruisers from the hoards of people that would swarm you if you dared to walk out the gate. They had even built a temporary grandstand of bleachers for the taxi drivers and others to sit and wait for the ship. I consider it a throwaway port whenever I see it on an itinerary. Anywhere along the Palancar Reef is great snorkeling and diving, especially in Belize.
zqvol Posted October 4, 2016 #12 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Are any of these tender ports? Roatan, Harvest Caye, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. All of them are normally docked. Cozumel and Roatan could be tendered. It really all depends on how many ships are there.

Aunu Posted October 4, 2016 Author #20 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Looking at a cruise calendar it looks like there are 2 ships in Roatan while we are there, Ours, The Getaway and The Carnival Glory. So it just depends on which one gets there first, that decides who docks and who tenders? We have an excursion in the morning so just hoping that we dock so we aren't stuck on a late tender boat since its not one booked through the cruise ship. The Carny ship most likely goes to mahogany Bay. The docks at Coxen Hole can handle two ships.
