Cassandra14 Posted October 4, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 4, 2016 Just been looking at the formal nights for Dubai to Southampton next year and there is a Mariners Ball. Any ideas what this is...It isn't listed on the website with the normal themes... Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Lanky Lad Posted October 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 4, 2016 I would not bother too much, but I did once see a gentleman on QE2 many years ago dressed as an 19th century sea captain.
SellaVee Posted October 6, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 6, 2016 Cassandra, how did you find out what the theme nights were on your cruise? I tried the link from Cunard's website but it gave me an error message.

Formal or informal and if there are any theme nights. Hope this helps. . Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk

Are you suggesting this was not the captain, Lanky? Lol John

(It just changed on our Nov cruise, and I wouldn't have noticed the change if it hadn't been pointed out by pmqua, a helpful fellow passenger on the roll call). As has been said, the evening's dress code isn't really final 'till it's published on board in the Daily Programme. Salacia Hmm, that could be a bit annoying on a Transatlantic - it's not like one could nip ashore for something else if the theme changes.
Underwatr Posted October 8, 2016 #11 Share Posted October 8, 2016 Usually the number of Formal vs. informal nights doesn't change, but the exact order might. In my experience they publish the dress code schedule in the Daily Programme on embarkation day.
Aussieflyer Posted October 9, 2016 #12 Share Posted October 9, 2016 I don't do fancy dress so unless the theme night is something standard I would wear like Black & White, it's not going to concern me. :)
Salacia Posted October 9, 2016 #13 Share Posted October 9, 2016 (edited) Hmm, that could be a bit annoying on a Transatlantic - it's not like one could nip ashore for something else if the theme changes. Yes, can be annoying, and not just on a TA. For example, the Nov QM2 cruise we're taking is 12 days. As usual, the formal nights, of which there are 4, are on sea days. No nipping ashore to find something else if the Daily Programme has a different dress code, and finding formal clothes in Caribbean ports presents it's own challenge. Which is why I appreciate the conventional advice given here often - don't put all your formal clothes in one bag :) It's also another reason why seasoned passengers don't go overboard (pardon the expression) dressing to fit the "theme". Happy sails to all! Salacia Edited October 9, 2016 by Salacia
