seacruise9 Posted October 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2016 Hi, I recently returned from an excellent cruise on the Queen Mary 2 from New York to Quebec (September 27 – October 4, 2016). This was my fifth voyage aboard the QM2 (past sailings were in 2004, 2006, 2009 and 2014). During previous sailings, I had interior or sheltered balcony staterooms. I was very impressed with the work that was accomplished during the recent major refurbishment. For this cruise, I was upgraded to one of the outside single staterooms that recently was added to Deck 2. My stateroom, 2010, was beautiful and very spacious. These staterooms are located on a quiet hallway that may be accessed through three different doors. The first door is to a small alcove at the aft end of the casino. The second door is a sliding door located in the new photo gallery. The third door directly accesses the stairway area directly forward of the Britannia Restaurant. Because there are only nine staterooms along this hallway, this area of the ship is very quiet. Also, the location is very convenient to the public areas on Decks 2 and 3. Due to the fact that Deck 2 is a public room deck with high ceilings, my stateroom had a high tray ceiling with indirect lighting. The bed is an extra-wide single (the width is between a single bed and standard double bed). I was able to place all of my suitcases under the bed. Also, there is a chaise lounge chair located near the large window. There also is a desk, chair and nightstand. The television is located on the wall directly across from the foot of the bed. Because Deck 2 is fairly near the waterline, there is an excellent view of the ocean. The high ceiling makes the stateroom feel more spacious. There is ample storage space in the closets and plenty of drawer space. Above the refrigerator, there is a small counter with a tea pot. The stateroom also has numerous electric outlets. The decor in the room is very attractive. The stateroom has a very nice bathroom with a long countertop and spacious shower. There is a door to the shower rather than a curtain. Also, there is excellent storage space in the bathroom. During the cabin crawl, people seemed to be very impressed with this stateroom. In fact, someone mentioned that it should be marketed as a Queens Grill single. I was extremely pleased with this stateroom and certainly recommend it. A have posted a few photos below. Please let me know if you have any questions. Chuck
mainewoods Posted October 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 6, 2016 I was on the same voyage. I was in the single stateroom on deck 3. These are very nice too, but the deck 3 staterooms seem to have a little more floor space and the two large windows are a bonus. Your bathroom (sink) looks to be a little larger. I think Cunard did a fine job with both types of single staterooms. Thank you for posting such nice photos.

I would enjoy the two large windows. Chuck

tv24 Posted October 9, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 9, 2016 Thanks for your review, Chuck. And the pics too! When we were on the QM2 in June, I snooped at the new single rooms and agree that the design and furnishings are terrific.

Austcruiser84 Posted October 9, 2016 #10 Share Posted October 9, 2016 I really like the bathroom - looks like the same material as used in QG! The glass shower is a nice touch. It beats the awful curtains.

MarkBearSF Posted October 9, 2016 #13 Share Posted October 9, 2016 (edited) You mention the extra high ceiling on 2. I would assume that the singles built into the old photo passthrough on 3 do not have that feature. Does that make as much of a difference as the windows? Rare travelberlin Posted October 9, 2016 #14 Share Posted October 9, 2016 The cabins look good. Thanks for the pictures. Do this single cabins come at a reduced price? What is the solo supplement?

I would assume that the singles built into the old photo passthrough on 3 do not have that feature. Does that make as much of a difference as the windows? Hi, The new single staterooms on Deck 3 do not have the high ceiling, but have the two large round windows. However, the Deck 2 single staterooms have a very good window. I think the high ceiling makes the room feel more spacious. This high ceiling is very rare in staterooms on any ship. Both categories of staterooms have their pluses and minuses. seacruise9 Posted October 10, 2016 Author #16 Share Posted October 10, 2016 The cabins look good. Thanks for the pictures. Do this single cabins come at a reduced price? What is the solo supplement? Hi, I had originally booked an inside stateroom and paid the single supplement, but was upgraded to the new outside single stateroom. At the time that I booked my cruise, the new single stateroom was substantially more expensive. The new single staterooms are priced fairly high. However, they are new, very attractive and have an excellent location. Chuck

How spacious was the shower? Any pics of it? Hi, The shower was fairly spacious (by cruise ship standards). It was difficult to photograph but I have included my best photo below. Note that the shower door is double-hinged (it can swing open into the room or into the shower). Chuck

Chuck Oh... that's what my SIL meant when she said her shower door swung both ways. I went and looked at mine, thinking it meant that it swings either from the left to the right (dummy me). Nope... (I thought to myself)... it only has hinges on one side. You should have seen me standing in my shower (with the door closed) trying to hand up my smalls on the laundry cord, and trying to figure out how to open the door (to the inside) without snapping the cord. Oh, it stretches by the way. Boy do I feel stupid.
fantasy51 Posted October 13, 2016 #24 Share Posted October 13, 2016 That was an interesting upgrade to have. How lovely to have a window, a new cabin, lovely shower, etc. What you missed out on from the Inside cabin was a larger bed and presumably more floorspace. I think I would miss the floorspace and the larger bed, but I'm sure the other things would more than make up for it. Luxury would win out over space. Were you given a choice in this upgrade or did they do it automatically?

Were you given a choice in this upgrade or did they do it automatically? Hi, I received the upgrade automatically. I was not given a choice, but I suppose that I could have called Cunard immediately and declined the upgrade. Even though the single stateroom and bed were smaller, I greatly enjoyed the upgrade. It was nice having a new stateroom with a large window. Also, the location of the stateroom was very convenient. I have been assigned to inside staterooms on the QM2 during previous sailings and preferred the outside single stateroom. Chuck
