Which Ships are Pushing the Once a Day Room Servicing?

We've seen a lot of reports here that stewards are saying once only but is anyone reporting it to GS or carnival officially? I doubt it. They are complaining here and that's about it. I highly doubt if most are going to file a complaint over it, I think that is why it appears the attendants are getting more and more bold over there refusals towards guests twice a day service requests. Coming and complaining to CC is not going to do any good, if you want Carnival to keep twice a day service you need to let Carnival corp know it, not CC and not JH. They need to be told if they remove twice a day service or continue to let their stewards (and name names if one refused or was rude about doing it twice a day) not do their stated duties you are going to start cutting tips or sailing other cruise lines.

If people just continue to keep sailing and whining about it on the boards of course Carnival will leave things as is and figure everyone is happy about it. If you don't like it, make sure Carnival knows it. If enough cruisers get upset and enough stewards get upset Carnival will know they hit their tipping point and will cut back on stewards room assignments lessening their load and give cruisers back their twice a day service without the ridiculous cards.

Excellent post! Could not say it better.

I know we would (want twice a day), but during lunch I scanned back on three threads and the majority wanted once a day...that posted here. (as I mentioned not exactly scientific). I might debate your point about being asked and how asked, but at the end of the day that will come out in the wash when it moves from a trial to either a policy or not.

It is going to be a policy. Will add more cabins to workloads of stewards and they will push people toward once a day.

Stewards will like this as their income will increase and Carnival will like it as they will have less stewards to house and can add more people to raise revenue for the cruise line.

Win/win for cruise line and loss for people who like the good service we have been getting.

Im not high maintenance here either. I even make my own bed of a morning  and keep my cabin as tidy and clean as I possibly can. I reuse towels at least once.

I still want twice a day service offered though with me having a chance to decline on a daily basis if Im paying full gratuities. Its just one of those things that make a cruise a little more special and stand out over land based vacations in hotels or resorts.

I completely agree with you! While I do not make my bed, we do keep our room neat and as uncluttered as I can.

Even so, I am on a Cruise and I am paying gratuities - of which the total keeps going up. And yet, Carnival wants to reduce the services I am paying for? If I wanted a low maintenance vacation I would go camping.

I am not a prima donna, but I absolutely do not agree with this newest policy. It was bad enough when they cut back on the wait staff while increasing the number of tables they service. Dinners in the dining room take longer, dishes sit longer between courses, and we have been served cold food more often because they can't get to all the tables they have to take care of.

What is next? Launder my own towels? Clean my bathroom? Empty my trash? I can do all of that at home.

Then stay home. Carnival is obviously changing into a product you no longer enjoy.

If these are the changes that Carnival wants to make, they are going to make them. Whether they do it by ripping off the bandage with one yank or by slowly peeling it back, the changes will come.

Once changes are made, both customers and Carnival will have a choice to make.

Perhaps after bookings plummet should the change be decisively made to service cabins once per day, the decision will be revisited.

I don't think it will have to be.

In fact, when you book a first class hotel in the United States such as a 4 or 5 Diamond rated hotel from the American Automobile Association evening turn down service is required to be offered in addition to the regular daily servicing of the rooms.

Absolutely, we always get turn down service where we stay in the US, the Caribbean and Mexico. We look for at least a 4 Diamond property.

No we don't change hand towels out after each use but do usually change them out at the end of the day along with kitchen towels. Bath towels yes they get changed out after each bath/shower. Whatever works for you, everyone does it differently.

I'm with you! The hand towel in the powder room and the kitchen towels get changed every day and bath towels and wash cloths are used once and then put in the laundry.

When I was a small child I asked my grandparents next door neighbor why they had so many towels and wash cloths out on the line. The neighbor, who was an MD, said because you need to use a clean towel every time you bathe and use multiple wash cloths when washing your body. I distinctly remember him saying you wouldn't want to get athletes feet on your face or rear end now would you and you wouldn't wash your face in the toilet, so you need to use at least 3 wash cloths for each shower. It really stuck with me. I told my Mom I would only use a towel once and she asked me if I thought we were made of money!

As soon as I had a place of my own and was paying the bills I went to the one towel, one use system. My DH was not raised that way, but he quickly came to appreciate the fresh towels. Honestly, the towels at his house always stunk, even when straight out of the laundry. I also only use only white towels, as per the MD neighbor, so that they can be bleached every wash.

The cabins on a ship are simply too humid to effectively dry the towels between use and it doesn't take much until you have a bunch of stinky towels. Look how fast the shower curtain starts to smell on a ship!

Actually, last time I saw this polled, the overwhelming majority stated they wanted twice a day service.

That was my take from watching the boards on CC, but Carnival paid Boston Consulting a bundle to tell them that their demographic only wanted once a day. Not only do I want my towels changed out twice a day, I also want my ice bucket refilled twice daily. Last I saw, there was no self service ice. How else are we going to chill the free bottles of warm water they give us as returning guests or for staying in a suite?

If they were going to tell Boston Consulting how they wanted the results skewed, they could have saved a lot of money. Makes no sense. Most chill the wanted in the mini fridges, but that is just me, seems way more romantic to use ice....

Would you be happy with self service ice?

Currently on the Miracle and got the card. Don't need turndown and we don't use ice. We have asked for extra towels.

FWIW only at the Hotel Del Coronado and the Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay have we received nightly turndown.

10/10-10/15 on the Ecstasy my room steward had the card and filled it out for me. Twice he asked if I wanted morning or even service. When I hesitated, he then offered both, but I chose evening service and it worked out fine. However i didn't feel that I received that extravagant pampered service level that I expect on a cruise. I had friends in 2 other cabins and they were not asked to choose and they never saw the card. I'm not sure if that's because they are platinum or because I was only on deck 5 (kind of in the cheap seats) or if it was purely coincidence.

So did your friends get twice a day service from their steward? Wonder if the other guests on their floor did too? Could have been because they were Platinum, they may have been told not to ask the elite guests lol. It doesn't have anything to do with the level you stay on for sure. They are even asking suite guests which is ridiculous, suites are already paying more in gratuities so they should be automatically twice a day no matter what.

Yes my friends got twice a day service. I ended up making my own bed each morning because I didn't want to come back to an unmade room. In hindsight I should have requested morning service but I thought I might want to sleep late.

Agree. All my towels used for the day get washed at the end of the day!!!!!

Just off the Legend - choice of am or pm. We took am which was fine with us as is only once a day. No offer of ice whatsoever - we were in a Vista Suite.

When insisting on two per day, just think about these guys who now have so many more cabins to do, why add to their enormous workload even further.

Surely we can pull up our bed if need be after an afternoon nap.

On the Splendor early September, I was not asked, but they did the room just once a day in the morning. That is just the way it happened for me. Spoke to others on the cruise who told me they were asked their choice. I did not bother questioning it, just let it go.
