The Odd Couple Posted October 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 27, 2016 We want to do something in Guatemala, but there are no reviews for this excursion. The blurb says it's a total of 4 hours, with a 1.5 hour trip each way. Has anyone been on this excursion and is it their experience that most of the day is spent on the bus? Any recommendations, please. Thanks for your help.
Rare ski ww Posted October 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 27, 2016 Go to the CC web site to the Ports of Call. You might find some reviews there. Allan

Not sure any excursion whose travel duration is 75% of the entire tour is worth it, but according to Cruise Critic's parent website Tripadvisor, it's a worthwhile place to visit if you are into pirate history. You can search on Tripadvisor "Castillo de San Felipe de Lara" - I see 98 reviews there.
The Odd Couple Posted October 29, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted October 29, 2016 Thanks for your advice. I had already looked at TripAdvisor and was still undecided as I think some other cruise lines use motor launches on the Rio Dulce - which I didn't think was in HAL's itinerary. We'll probably do the Las Escobas excursion now, which gets good reviews.
Krazy Kruizers Posted October 29, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 29, 2016 We did that excursion a long time ago. It was a long bus ride out to the fort -- I didn't keep track of how long we were on the bus. We did enjoy the fort. We just slowed down to see the Rio Dulce -- no getting off the bus. The Odd Couple Posted October 30, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted October 30, 2016 Thanks for your advice. Was hoping we would have seen more of the Rio Dulce, but it's obviously not to be!
keikobad Posted October 30, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 30, 2016 Hi, we haven't been on this tour but did the Ak'tenamit tour from Santo Thomas de Castilla. We enjoyed our day a lot. You go by boat to livingston and do an interesting city walk followed by a boat tour through the rio dulce and visit a local community with a school where you get lunch. One of the best tours we did on our cruise in that area. Just in case your choosen tour has too much bus involved.
The Odd Couple Posted October 31, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We haven't yet made a booking, so we'll look at that excursion as a possible - thanks,
