WayTooCool Posted October 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted October 30, 2016 We're going to be on the Magic, in Roatan, the same day a friend and her disabled mother will be in port on the Dream (they are most likely staying aboard most of their cruise). Do you think we could visit with them aboard the Dream, since we're a Carnival cruiser?
springs741 Posted October 30, 2016 #2 Share Posted October 30, 2016 If this is something you want to do I will suggest you start the process now. I do not think you will be allowed to just ask at the gang way.
Elaine5715 Posted October 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted October 30, 2016 No. Simply no. Unless you are a high ranking Carnival executive.
Rare shof515 Posted October 30, 2016 #4 Share Posted October 30, 2016 it might be easier to meet at the pier where the ships dock
mafig Posted October 30, 2016 #5 Share Posted October 30, 2016 Not possible since 9/11 .... or maybe even before that.
tef43 Posted October 30, 2016 #6 Share Posted October 30, 2016 No. They post a "No Visitors" sign at the gangway for a reason.
mishka422 Posted October 30, 2016 #7 Share Posted October 30, 2016 No. Could they possibly disembark and you meet them just outside their gangway? Sent from my SM-G925V using Forums mobile app
mrsfuzzmo Posted October 30, 2016 #8 Share Posted October 30, 2016 No, you cannot board another ship, although as others have stated, you could easily meet on shore, just a short distance from the ship.
nednrom Posted October 30, 2016 #9 Share Posted October 30, 2016 No, they have not allowed visitors since the 90's on most cruise lines and not any that I know of since 9/11.
tallyho8 Posted October 30, 2016 #10 Share Posted October 30, 2016 The only time I know of where they allow people on a ship they are not cruising on (not including workers, dignitaries and the press) is when they are guests at an onboard wedding. maldenmusic Posted October 30, 2016 #11 Share Posted October 30, 2016 Just plan to meet them off the ship. I highly doubt you will be allowed on another ship.
SkyMaster Posted October 30, 2016 #12 Share Posted October 30, 2016 The folks who posted above are right. It's a shame too, as we used to visit other ships while in port, and many times, found the "next cruise" by doing that. I too, suggest meeting your friends on the pier. xitappers2bx Posted October 31, 2016 #14 Share Posted October 31, 2016 We're going to be on the Magic, in Roatan, the same day a friend and her disabled mother will be in port on the Dream (they are most likely staying aboard most of their cruise). Do you think we could visit with them aboard the Dream, since we're a Carnival cruiser? I asked my friend who works for the cruise line... due to security and immigration rules the answer would be no. He did say you could try and pre-arrange this, but that chances are there is no likelihood of this happening. He did say that there are many places within a short walk that would be easy to meet at though.

WayTooCool Posted October 31, 2016 Author #16 Share Posted October 31, 2016 Thanks for the responses - looks like we may meet ashore. Her mom is quite debilitated, probably will stay in a wheelchair. We were trying to prevent having our friend (63) from dealing with disembarking with her mom. Their cruise is a Bucket List for her mom - she's pretty sure they'll make good use of the boat, but not thinking in terms of excursions. Maybe she can meet us for a little bit without her mom. We'll see - in the meantime, thanks for the replies.
ARcruisin2 Posted October 31, 2016 #17 Share Posted October 31, 2016 Since the ships dock - it's not a tender port, meeting on the pier should not be hard. If they wait until the initial rush subsides, the friend should be able to roll her right off. good luck & enjoy
Aquahound Posted October 31, 2016 #18 Share Posted October 31, 2016 Most of the responses on this thread are not accurate. You can arrange to go aboard another ship in port, but it has to be pre-arranged. xitappers2bx came closest to the correct answer. It most likely won't be permitted, but the ultimate decision comes down to the ship. There are no laws preventing it. Ships take on visitors all the time. What I do agree with in this thread is that it's more hassle than it's worth. You're better off avoiding this headache and just meeting on the pier. And yes, other cruise lines do allow visitors also. I know someone who had a friend sailing on Oasis of the Seas and was able to get on board in Cozumel. He was there on another RCI ship. In that case, the Customer Service Manager approved it ahead of time. They gave him a visitor pass to wear for the day while on board.

"SKY" I remember those days, and I miss being able to do that. I would think with passengers having to be cleared before sailing, having a ship card would allow you to visit other ships.
