Since it is our first cruise I would like to know if we can carry alcohol on board

Yes :)

P&O are different to the vast majority of cruise lines in this respect.

You can take aboard any alcohol, at embarkation or at any port-of-call, without charge. Wine, beers, spirits, anything.

This only for drinking in your cabin - not in public areas such as decks, bars, restaurants.

P&O reserve the right to withdraw that concession, but have only been known to do so when the quantity suggests that the passenger is intent on making it a booze-cruise.

But strangely you can't buy alcohol in the ship's duty-free shop for immediate consumption - alcohol purchases there are retained & can be collected on the last full day of your cruise.

The timing of your question suggests the Caribbean?

Don't buy at your UK airport - best value is the duty-free shops in the port at Barbados or a number of ports-of-call, though a poor selection of wines.

As well as wine, we take aboard a bottle of Pimms, some lemonade & some mint. Steal some fresh fruit salad from the buffet & any time is Pimms o'clock on the balcony. :)

JB :)

Hi, and welcome!

John Bull has as always given you the right answer... except that Ventura doesn't do fly/cruises any longer, just long cruises to the Caribbean and back again- 2 of those this next Jan and Feb... (and I'm on one of those again :D )

Enjoy... if there's anything you need to know about Ventura, we'll be on her for the 6th time soon... ;)
