TEOB Posted November 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted November 22, 2016 We've booked a South American cruise on the Crown Princess in February. There are 3 formal dining nights. We do not wish to dress up to that extent - how strict is the formal dining policy in Anytime Dining? Thanks
Clarea Posted November 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted November 22, 2016 Welcome to Cruise Critic. You may also want to post your question on the dedicated Princess forum, where it's likely you will reach more people with direct experience: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=

We do not wish to dress up to that extent - how strict is the formal dining policy in Anytime Dining? Thanks It will vary by head waiter. Some will enforce it as per the princess standard some won't bother at all. ATD and MTD both face the same issue.
cb at sea Posted November 22, 2016 #4 Share Posted November 22, 2016 You won't need ballgown and tux... a nice dress and jacket (for men) will suffice. You can go "all out" if you want, but many don't nowadays. And..the "formal" thing is only for the MDR...you can go to a specialty, the buffet or room service if you really want to be ultra casual. SuiteTraveler Posted November 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted November 22, 2016 Typically on Princess you can get away with black pants and a dressy blouse or a nice dress and your husband could wear a dark suit and tie on formal nights. I want to encourage you to attend formal nights because that is usually when the best food is served on Princess. The days of evening gowns and tuxes have passed for most people and while there might be a few attired in that way, nowadays, it's much more casual. easyboy Posted November 22, 2016 #6 Share Posted November 22, 2016 Tux for men and long gowns for ladies are now the minority. Smart casual now comprises the majority. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Husky61 Posted November 22, 2016 #7 Share Posted November 22, 2016 Have been on numerous Princess cruises, and I and many other men wear a dress shirt and slacks. I don't bother with a jacket, and never had a problem and many other men were dress like me.:)
