fdpevey Posted December 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted December 5, 2016 We enjoyed our stay at the Holiday Inn Port of Miami five years ago before a cruise, so I started there when planning for a pre-cruise stay in February, 2017. Saturday night before a Sunday cruise departure. Rates right now are $300 a night for the least expensive room. That seems really high for this property. Anyone stayed there recently? Is this the price range you experienced?
tnfcruise Posted December 5, 2016 #2 Share Posted December 5, 2016 Haven't stayed there, but there's a big boat show in February that may be driving up the price of hotels ...I think it's in the middle of the month. easyboy Posted December 5, 2016 #3 Share Posted December 5, 2016 Am also stalking for low rates at Holiday Inn FLL for March 2017. Still high on the $250s. Same last Jan. What I noticed is when it's winter here in the northeast, hotel prices in Florida is consistently on the high side. fishywood Posted December 5, 2016 #4 Share Posted December 5, 2016 If you are looking at Presidents Day weekend there is the Miami International Boat Show as noted above. Plus the Coconut Grove Arts Festival. Plus the South Beach Wine and Food Festival. That property was actually sold more than a year ago to developers that have all the necessary graft...ahem, permits...in place to tear it down and build a luxury tower in its place. The termination date for the Holiday Inn franchise keeps getting delayed because of how profitable the current hotel actually is. So the rates will be as high as the market will bear for the time being.
skrufy Posted December 5, 2016 #5 Share Posted December 5, 2016 (edited) Winter rates are generally high in Miami. Search the hotel web sites, you may find a good deal there. We like the Intercontinental and, staying downtown near restaurants and some nightlife. Rates for the Intercontinental start at $319.00 a night. Searched the web sites and found the YVE, just up the block for around $180.00. Have never stayed there, but for one night we can handle it. Airline prices are also high that time of year. JohninDC Posted December 5, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 5, 2016 Flying into MIA or FLL? Other downtown Miami hotels popular with cruisers include two in the Mary Brickell area (Hampton Inn & Homewood Suites), Hyatt, Doubletree and a couple of Marriott options. fdpevey Posted December 6, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted December 6, 2016 Planning to fly into Miami. Priced BWI to FLL and BWI to MIA. It pretty much equals out ... the baggage fees of other airlines [a major complaint of mine] are offset by the transportation fees from FLL to Miami and the general hassle of FLL. There was a point in time that the Holiday Inn PoM was the only 3.5 star hotel in the area so you could get a good deal by bidding right on Priceline, but even that is no longer the case. I'll keep watching. Thanks, all.
eandj Posted December 6, 2016 #8 Share Posted December 6, 2016 Feb. is prime season. Don't wait for bargains. Book something cancellable if you want to wait. Lastminutetravel.Com has a liberal free cancellation policy.
JohninDC Posted December 6, 2016 #9 Share Posted December 6, 2016 You might be able to stay cheaper out by MIA - hotels in the blue Lagoon area are often suggested - but you will not have the dining options and nightlife you will find downtown.
