Auckland Hotel needed for family

We need to book an Auckland Hotel for our pre-cruise stay. The problem is I'm having a hard time finding a hotel room with two queen beds that will sleep 4 people since we are a family of 4. We really don't want to book 2 rooms as that could get quite expensive. We are looking for a nice modern hotel, any suggestions?

The best thing I can suggest is to use one of the hotel booking sites, such as those recommended by TripAdvisor, and set up teh search for 4 people on whatever your dates are.

Some of those sites will also show you apartment hotels and that may be a viable option. The Waldorf Celestion and Waldorf Stadium are both in downtown Auckland and near a large supermarket so you can get breakfast provisions easily. This can be quite a saving compared with paying for hotel breakfasts thus compensating for the higher cost of a two bedroom apartment.

Are you game for something different? Have you tried Airbnb? There are a number of Auckland apartment listings with multiple beds and/or bedrooms, most with wifi and kitchenettes. If interested in this type of lodging, look for one with multiple strong reviews, note cancellation policies, house rules and extra cleaning fees.

SF- Part of your problem is that 2 Queen beds in one room is not a common configuration in NZ (unlike the USA).

You may be able to get a room with one King/Queen/Double bed and one single bed, and ask for a second, portable bed to be added.

My god. Seventy-one years since your first cruise in 1945, That is awesome.

It wasn't exactly a luxury cruise! I listed it just for the record.

1945. End of World War II. My mother was 7 months pregnant and doctors said that she would die if she stayed in the Sudan for the birth. My father was in the UK Diplomatic Service and the UK Government pulled some strings, so that mother and I (aged 3) were on the first ship out of Alexandria, bringing troops home from Egypt.

I remember being spoiled rotten by the soldiers.

I also remember that the ship hit a floating mine in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea and sustained some damage. We had to be transferred to another ship in the middle of the night. I remember being lowered to the other ship in a cargo net.

We reached England safely and my brother was born 6 weeks later.

You could try the Tower part of the Heritage Hotel.

Thank you for filling us in on that 1945 transfer to England. I am sure it did not have any specialty restaurants. With respect to hitting the floating mine, didn't the UK navy use degaussing to demagnetize their ships?

I might be wrong but it looked to me like there is a Sky City Casino Hotel and a Sky City Hotel. Are there two separate Sky City hotels?

There is a skycity hotel and a skycity grand. Both are operated under the skycity banner and located on the same block. The grand is the 5 star vs the 4 star of the sky city.

I have stayed at the skycity hotel 4 times now and love it. Really fantastic service, nice rooms and free (unlimited wifi). But got a good deal on our next stay so going to the grand.
