  1. What he meant was a “hard boiled egg” I thought it was funny but might be my twisted sense of humour.
  2. Two thoughts for today if I may. Yesterday we sat in our bus waiting for our tour to begin when a discussion ensued between a couple with a “service dog” in a stroller and our driver. This took thirty minutes and we are not sure what exactly happened but in the end they got off our bus and got on a different one. Possibly with a dog lover! Heard at breakfast today ”Sir how would you like your eggs? I would like them hard! Sometimes it might be useful to learn a few English words before boarding 😀
  3. If your hotel is near the cruise terminal you could leave your luggage there and walk to the very end where Hotel New York is situated, you can then spend some time watching the world go by. The reason for the timing slots is probably due to the total **** *** at the last boarding on 21 st April, the lines for dropping off luggage were ginormous and many were complaining.Everyone had a 12:00 boarding time so it looks like they are trying this time round to do it better.
  4. When getting your Vietnam visa make sure you use the official site and not one that you pay to do it for you. https://evisa.xuatnhapcanh.gov.vn/trang-chu-ttdt
  5. Just returned from the show “All That” on the Nieuw Statendam, we really enjoyed it and hope HAL continues with this type of show in future.
  6. We were the lucky ones, I left Piet in the ginormous queue and headed to the start of the line, first time ever we have C.O. with priority boarding. The guys there were no good just said you can get a Porter and they will help you getting onboard. I asked what was the point of priority boarding then?? Luckily a lady came along asking people in the line who had priority boarding so went and got Piet and luggage and followed the leader. A discussion ensued between the Porters, the lady and a few passengers who thought I was pushing in. She told us to put our cases on their trolley anyway, walk all the way back past the line and enter the terminal. We did so and then! we had the boarding passes on our phones but also a printed one yeah guess what they needed the printed ones. Well boarded and in the cabin just after 12:00 we were ready to get this cruise rolling.
  7. The problems with security have really been solved. Here is some helpful information about Schiphol. https://www.schiphol.nl/en/at-schiphol/services/?_gl=1*wldtlh*_up*MQ..*_ga*MTYxMTUxNjIwNi4xNzEzNTkzNzA2*_ga_SY55X9B9Q6*MTcxMzU5MzcwNi4xLjEuMTcxMzU5MzcxNi4wLjAuNjI5MjI4Mzk3
  8. I am afraid the weather looks pretty ghastly for today and tomorrow looking forward to catching up on board. Rosalyn
  9. You can pay in all public transport with your CC, just tap on and off, you do need one per person though. https://www.ns.nl/en/privacy/travelling-with-your-debit-card-or-credit-card.html#:~:text=Debit Cards or Credit Cards, limit on your Credit Card.
  10. If you decide to go it alone you might like to prebook tickets. https://www.mauritshuis.nl/en/visit/
  11. Ships name there are 31 cruises to choose from Found it. Happy planning
  12. It is where people on your actual cruise meet up online to discuss their plans. If you post the date and name of your ship I will add the link.
  13. Never been there but have two recommendations. Is it not possible to have two days precruise and just fly home afterwards? We find its a bit of a hassle sorting stuff still needed etc when re packing, however we do this sometimes if flights are cheaper a day or so later. I would book your hotel asap with a refundable rate so you can always change it if it becomes cheaper. My experience is that prices (nearly) always go up. Checkout the hotel recommended above. happy planning
  14. Welcome to CC. I would suggest you join your roll call, I can’t add link as you didn’t mention which ship/date.
  15. Not sure how old the kids are but in this digital age and if you go to Cadiz they might enjoy this. I know our kids did. https://www.torretavira.com/en/what-is-a-camera-obscura/ Happy planning
  16. Agree with all of the above but to me the most important thing is to book non stop direct flights. Spitting flights might seem the way to go but adds on quite a lot of extra waiting time as well. We flew back from Australia to The Netherlands 5 hours wait in Tokyo 5 hours wait in Frankfurt and even the luxury of business class lounges gets boring when all you want is to get home. When/if booking and you decide to book P.E. Make sure it is a proper premium, some airlines have economy comfort which is just a little extra recline and nothing near real P.E. Look at each airline and check the fotos and seat plans first. Have a great cruise and enjoy Asia it is definitely worth the long flights.
  17. Welcome to CC, now you have found it you may want to join your roll call for your sailing. The link is shown below, here you can also discuss things with your fellow cruisers. Have a great cruise.
  18. We will be sailing on N.S. From Rotterdam, no flights booked however we (would be) are able to book transfers see attached. The transfers can be booked separately wether you have booked with Flightease or not, I think this is exactly what the Op is looking for.
  19. Not sure about this, all HAL requires is a collared shirt and long trousers, we have never taken a jacket, never taken one on Oceania either! Did you do a search for dress code Oceania? there are so many threads on that. Have a great cruise.
  20. I have no idea if you are interested in history but we took a trip to Lamanai when we were in Belize. It involved a river trip and then a visit to an ancient pyramid, this one has not been completely reclaimed and pristine like Chichen Itza so you get an idea of how amazing the discovery was. We had a meal there and heard howler monkeys however we saw the local guides were actually making the sounds! No idea if your cruise line offers an excursion but if they do it was one of our highlights. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g291968-d5452919-Reviews-Lamanai_Belize_Tours-Belize_City_Belize_District.html Happy planning
  21. I had hoped for the (fresh stuff too) but the little letters say no.
  22. This is a translation from an article in a Dutch Maritime newspaper De Schuttevaer. OVV investigates fatal accident on cruise ship Holland America Line The Safety Research Council (OVV) is investigating an accident on a Holland America Line cruise ship, in which two crew members were killed on Friday. Two OVV employees traveled to the Caribbean, where the accident happened, the council said.
  23. Why not book an hotel next to the cruise terminal, take a taxi from the airport to your hotel and walk to the cruise ship on embarkation day? I would first of all check the price for the HAL hotel booking, it is usually priced per person instead of per room. See if it is worth the price difference and then check the hotel for their checkout times. HAL seems to have dropped staggered boarding times (read on CC here not yet verified myself) and allow it after 12:00.
