Let me start by asking no flames please. Has anyone taken Park West up on a free cruise. If so what kind of cabin did you get and how much dud you spend about free. I am not including any art you may have purchased.

I will be going on my second free cruise from Park West in a couple of weeks. The first was on NCL Escape 7 day eastern Caribbean and I was given a mini suite and this time on Princess Regal 7 day in a Balcony. The NCL included free excursions and specialty dining. I spent very little besides my trips to the casino and the artwork. Hope that helps.

How much do you have to spend in order for them to offer you a free cruise?

 

I think the art auctions are part of some people's cruise experience, but I hope people know that you can often find the exact same pieces on land for less than what they are being sold for on the ship. So maybe people are overpaying thousands of dollars for something, and getting a cruise in return.

I suppose one could compare a free cruise from Park West to free Cruise from Casino at Seas. In the case of Park West if you are the type of person who will spends thousands of dollars on art regardless, why not take advantage of a "free cruise" with some perks valued at say $2000.00 to offset the cost of the art you would have bought anyway ? Same logic for a comp cruise from Casino at Seas. If you are going to wager thousands of dollars in the casino regardless, why not take advantage of a "free cruise" ?

We went on a VIP cruise with Park West a few years back and had a balcony. They host dinners several nights for the group and also time to mingle with the artists. They also have several private auctions for the group on sea days. Also, depending upon how much you spend, they will reimburse a portion of your airfare (at least they did a few years back). We had some incidental charges at the end, eg speciality dining and some drinks (this was before NCL had the Ultimate beverage package). Overall, we had a great time.

We did a VIP art cruise about 1.5 years ago. Park west paid for a nice balcony room, specialty dinners with artists and cocktail parties with the artists. Prior to the cruise, park west put us up in a very nice hotel with dinner and cocktail party. Transportation to the cruise from the hotel and priority boarding was provided. It was a great time and the wife and I enjoyed the other participants as well as specialty dinners and plenty of drinks lol.

 

Now the bad part. Which really didn't matter to us. Even though prior to the cruise, we told park west which artists we loved. Park west had none of the artists on board nor any of their artwork. We didn't like most of the artwork that was being pushed by park west on this cruise. (Autumn Deforrest and Lebo). We had to go to 3 VIP art auctions during the 7 day cruise and bought no artwork. By the last cocktail party and art auction, we could tell that the auctioneer and his wife were not pleased in our lack of purchase. Oh well.... thanks for the free cruise.

Sorry there is Art shows on NCL .As far as free yes you are expected to buy,yes you spend lost of time with the artists.So if over priced art is your thing then enjoy...And yes I have lots hanging in my house....Enjoy your on vacation..

A funny story about Park West and my NCL Cruises. My first Cruise with NCL was back in 2001 and me and my wife attend all the Park West auctions and we ended up buying 4 or 5 pieces 2 that we really wanted and one I bid on by accident my wife kicked me and I thought that was her telling me she wanted it. Any way time passes and so does my wife (in 2008) I decide it is time to cruise again in 2015 and I love NCL so I book a cruise on the Breakaway (Great ship) I see Park West is still around and am like well maybe I can pick up a piece. I talk to a few of their reps and even show them pictures of the items I brought 14 years ago and now I attend the first Auction. The first item up for bid comes out and starts at like $5,0000 or higher. The Auction has stuff with bids like 10,000 to 30,000 Now I brought my 4 or 5 pieces 14 yrs ago for a total of like $750.00 I was like are they crazy who has that kind of cash to spend. I left that auction shaking my head and avoiding them for the rest of the cruise. They really scaled up from my first trip.

I have to say that despite their really overwhelming sales tactics ( like having someone sit next to you and ask your opinion, how you deserve it, etc.) They were really accommodating when we won a raffle for a free painting. We didn't like the paintings we won and they allowed us to change it for one that we loved. It is expensive, because of the framing. But framing is expensive anyway. I would love to see people's pictures of their art.

I attended both art auctions on my recent cruise as I love looking at art and enjoy hearing the knowledge provided. Had there been more pieces in the 100-400 range, I would have bought, but I have to answer to the hubby and $1800-$3400 art wasn't going to happen. I've bought cars for less than that!
