Rare h20skibum Posted January 27, 2017 Author #26 Share Posted January 27, 2017 After exploring the ship around the pool deck, the cabins opened up. We decided to take our carry-on to the cabin and change into our swim suits to enjoy the pool. We had an OV cabin this cruise, also known as steerage +1. Regular steerage was across the passageway for the inside cabins. We usually book balcony cabins, and it had been a long time since we did an OV. But when we were looking for a quick cruise, and with the great perks we got, we couldn't pass it up. It came with the go best package of premium drink package, unlimited internet for two, prepaid grats., and a total of $400 OBC after the extra our TA threw in. I think this pulled out as an extra sleeper. The small desk area had two plugs. That's why we always bring the belkin. There is storage above the tv with the minibar below. The wall of mirrors made the cabin feel much larger. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare h20skibum Posted January 27, 2017 Author #27 Share Posted January 27, 2017 The bath was probably typical for any cabin less than a suite. The shower was larger than the tubes you find on many of the Royal Caribbean ships. The bath did have a night light (the leaf design to the right in the photo). If there was an outlet in there, we never found it. The safe would hold things as large as an iPad, and there was lots of drawer space. Plenty of closet space for us, but this pic was taken after we unpacked. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Rare h20skibum Posted January 27, 2017 Author #29 Share Posted January 27, 2017 It looks like a Classic member was in the cabin before us. We found this description of their benefits. We had our Select benefits outlined, as well as the events you could attend. We didn't use any of these. We also received a card listing our table assignment for early dining. You table number is not printed on your sea pass. I guess some people must be challenged in finding the entrance on deck 5[emoji848] Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare h20skibum Posted January 27, 2017 Author #30 Share Posted January 27, 2017 (edited) This may be a good time to post the embarkation day daily that was in our cabin. I don't know why they print these in blue. They are so hard to scan and get a good copy. Rare h20skibum Posted January 27, 2017 Author #31 Share Posted January 27, 2017 Our bags made it to the cabin, so we could get things put away and change for muster drill. Our muster station was at the casino. Does that mean it is a gamble if you get off the ship in an emergency? They wouldn't let you take pictures or videos during the drill, so you have to settle for an empty casino picture. Just a photo to remind us what ship we are on. After the muster drill, we headed for the bar aft on deck 10 to meet up with others from our roll call. I love the photos aft as we sail away. Rare h20skibum Posted January 27, 2017 Author #34 Share Posted January 27, 2017 We had early dining in the MDR ( the one you have to enter on deck 5[emoji15]) We checked out the menu to see if they were serving anything we like. Mmmmmmm. Prime Rib. Nice and pink, like I like it. And of course, some escargots. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Rare h20skibum Posted January 28, 2017 Author #41 Share Posted January 28, 2017 So a quick stop back at the cabin before heading out for the evening, and what do we find? The Daily for Key West and a Disembarkation Questionnaire!!! We just got on the ship, and you want us to think about getting off already? But wait, what does the questionnaire say? As we disembark in San Juan? We aren't going to San Juan!!! Maybe all these people at guest services got the same San Juan questionnaire. Rare h20skibum Posted January 28, 2017 Author #42 Share Posted January 28, 2017 We caught a little bit of the comedian before heading to the Rendezvous Bar. A Caribbean Cobbler. Total miles logged today = 13.28. It is because of our morning workouts, and never using elevators. Time to put a wrap on the first cruise day and get ready for Key West. Rare h20skibum Posted January 28, 2017 Author #43 Share Posted January 28, 2017 A word about the X Celerate internet. Our package included this for two for the week. As we work out on the treadmill or elliptical each morning, we typically stream shows from Amazon Prime or Netflix on our iPhones. So for early morning workouts, these worked just fine. I was also able to stream some of the Pens-Caps game on my iPad in the cabin. Never did try to FaceTime, but if the video streamed okay, I have to believe it would work. We used the VOOM internet on the Oasis, and this was as fast. Sent from my iPad using Forums

Rare h20skibum Posted January 28, 2017 Author #46 Share Posted January 28, 2017 Key West day. We were up early and made our way to the fitness center to start the day. We have been to Key West before on both land based vacations and cruise ports of call, so we didn't book any tours here. Each morning we made our way to Cafe al Bacio for a couple of lattes to take to the Ocenview Cafe to have with breakfast. The servers at al Bacio got to know us quite well, and by the end of the second day they already knew what our special orders would be. Maybe that is the advantage of a small ship. And it was nice that everything was included in our beverage package. The Ocean View Cafe had several made to order omelet stations. This is where we met the first rude complainer on the cruise. You know the type, the line doesn't move fast enough for them, and you wonder why they are even on a cruise. It is to relax and enjoy. I think I will just call him Don for short. The omelets were great. And they go great with a latte. And a Bloody Mary Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare h20skibum Posted January 28, 2017 Author #47 Share Posted January 28, 2017 The Quinta Essentia yacht was anchored not far away. A nice toy for $40 million. My boat is about the size of the launch they have tied to the swim platform. Ready to leave the ship for a day in Key West. Our plan for the day was to make our way to the cemetery and just enjoy the sites and sounds here. Our previous trips here, we never visited the cemetery. It may sound like an odd place to go, but there is a lot of history there. We passed Sloppy Joes on the way. And St Paul's Church along the way. Rare h20skibum Posted January 28, 2017 Author #48 Share Posted January 28, 2017 The Key West cemetery reminds me of the ones in New Orleans and San Juan. The historical markers give you some information about the cemetery, and there are free self guided walking tours and maps available online. It is still used today, and it was so sad to come across some recent graves of children with toys and other memorials. Historical marker. Were there really an additional 25,000 buried here since the historical marker dated 2005 and when this marker was made? Sloppy Joe's grave. “Pearl” Roberts was a local hypochondriac who had the last word with her marker: “I Told you I was Sick.” In the same area is the marker for Gloria M. Russell: “I’m just resting my eyes.” Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare h20skibum Posted January 28, 2017 Author #49 Share Posted January 28, 2017 More from the Cemetery. Marker for Gladys Bates - One of the most intricate carved angels in the cemetery. There were many of these guys running around. More vaults. And markers. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare h20skibum Posted January 28, 2017 Author #50 Share Posted January 28, 2017 If any of you read my report from the Oasis, I was on the hunt for a perfect Cuban sandwich. I read ahead of time that there was a place called Ana's Cuban Cafe on the corner of South and Simonton Streets in Key West. We had to try it for lunch. The menu was very reasonably priced, and it appeared it was a favorite for local takeout. The Cuban sandwich was huge, and one would have been enough for both of us. The place in Miami still has the best, but this one ranks up there. We also had fried plantains. And what else, but a Key West beer.
