Hey Eaglecw, would the Mt. Roberts tram be open in mid May? Will be on the Radiance Ots then. I'm sure there will be snow up there then.

Virginia: You may want to check their website to see if they have a definite opening date for the upcoming season posted yet. But we took the tram to the top of Mt. Roberts several years ago around May 20th or so (if my memory is correct).

Can we take the tram up,and hike back down later?

Its $33 for a round trip tram ticket from the base. There are no one way fares starting at the bottom. If you hike up, it’s only $10 for the ride down or if you purchase at least $10 worth in the gift shop, the ride down is free.

There’s a possibility that there could be some snow up on top. We were up there in early June and there was a little bit of snow back up on the mountain. Here’s a link to Mt. Roberts web site http://mountrobertstramway.com/

oh excellent! That's a good question though- when do they open for the season? we are there early May...was thinking it might be interesting ride up,then a place to hike and see views after that

It usually is fully open in May. They do run the trams up and if early- do not count on any trails being open.

I have walked down from the top. You need to be WELL aware of the previous weather. There are several steep areas that become, damp mud slicks. Best to have been dry for the previous several days. I would never consider any trekking down, prior to June.
