Krazy Kruizers Posted February 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 11, 2017 At one time, HAL used to have the price for the cost per minute. It was $16 per minute -- it may have gone up since then.
jtl513 Posted February 11, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 11, 2017 It was $16 per minute -- it may have gone up since then.Still is. It says that in the section sue1898 gave the link to.
avian777 Posted February 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 11, 2017 For future reference (on this and many other matters), attached is a copy of HAL's "Know Before You Go" brochure. Telephone calls are covered in "Communication at Sea" on page 17. Smooth sailing ... KnowBeforeYouGo.pdf
jtl513 Posted February 11, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 11, 2017 For future reference (on this and many other matters), attached is a copy of HAL's "Know Before You Go" brochure. Telephone calls are covered in "Communication at Sea" on page 17.Smooth sailing ... That version is dated 11/2015. I believe it is better to give the link to KBYG on the HAL site for the latest version. The current one is Jan 2017.http://www.hollandamerica.com/assets/cruise-vacation-onboard/KBYG.pdf

john2003 Posted February 11, 2017 #8 Share Posted February 11, 2017 Should be able to text you in most locations. If this doesn't work I don't think the phone service will be working either. Sent from my LG-H812 using Forums mobile app

Yes, but any part can change anytime, so IMO it is best to always look at the current version.

senorjim Posted February 12, 2017 #13 Share Posted February 12, 2017 On our last cruise a few weeks ago on Oosterdam on our room key card was the ship's phone number. It appeared to be toll free but I have no idea what payment they may ask for once you called. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
jtl513 Posted February 12, 2017 #14 Share Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) On our last cruise a few weeks ago on Oosterdam on our room key card was the ship's phone number. It appeared to be toll free but I have no idea what payment they may ask for once you called. The number on the card (321-837-6106) is not a specific ship number, it is what HAL calls a "Ship Dial Service". Read the info linked to in post #2. Edited February 12, 2017 by jtl513
jtl513 Posted February 12, 2017 #15 Share Posted February 12, 2017 (edited) shipdial.com is run by Harris CapRock Maritime Solutions. The FAQs say a $79.50 hold will be placed on your credit card up front. Edited February 12, 2017 by jtl513

Your advice that it's "best to always look at the current version" was especially helpful, since I'm certain no one would have figured that out without your insights. Thanks again for your input. jthibeault Posted February 14, 2017 #18 Share Posted February 14, 2017 Also check the Emergency Phone Number section on pages 3 and 4 of the Know Before You Go booklet. It may be a more appropriate number to hand out, depending on what you're planning for.
