Monterey Man Posted September 16, 2017 #26 Share Posted September 16, 2017 I have been trying to see shore excursions for Monterrey for a month or so. I'd love to know if they offer any. Get away from the crowds and take a Monterey walking tour.
vampiress Posted September 16, 2017 #27 Share Posted September 16, 2017 i have not been on the grand but i quite enjoyed the ruby. so i live in la and i've driven to both santa barbara and monterey. but i did enjoy my california coastal both towns are walkable and if you do a smidge of research on say lonely planet, you can easily make your own excursion. USNUZULOOSE Posted September 16, 2017 #28 Share Posted September 16, 2017 So funny for this thread. We come up to Monterey at least 2 times a month. We are driving home as we speak. I would love to go to Momterey on a cruise. We could rent a car and enjoy our day. We love the the beach.
Thrak Posted September 16, 2017 #29 Share Posted September 16, 2017 We haven't been to Monterey in quite a while but love it there. The bad thing is that I've read there is quite a bit of local feeling against cruise ships. They aren't wanted by a lot of folks in the area. Sea Hag Posted September 17, 2017 #30 Share Posted September 17, 2017 Just curious, is the Monterrey Aquarium bigger or better than the one in Long Beach? I was pretty much blown away by the one in Long Beach by its sheer size and variety of sea life. I like both the Monterrey aquarium and the one in Long Beach, but I'd give a definite nod to the one in Monterrey as being the better of the two. Might be a matter of personal taste, and many here may have the opposite vie.
Robinsoncruiseso Posted September 17, 2017 #31 Share Posted September 17, 2017 Another vote for the Ruby and Monterey. Lived in Monterey for several years and will say the town is walkable or you can use public transit. Aquarium is great and you can spend another hour browsing the shops on Cannery Row. I have not been on the Grand, but frequent Ruby Princess. She is one of our favorites, along with Regal and Star.
rtlk Posted September 21, 2017 #32 Share Posted September 21, 2017 How far is it from the spot that the tenders let you off in Monterey to the cannery row and Aquarium. Is it a short walk (say a mile or so ) ?
