Rare TLCOhio Posted February 20, 2017 #3 Share Posted February 20, 2017 Which pier does Princess, particularly Island Princess, normally use in S.F. ? Getting ready next Tuesday to depart for doing a 15-day Ft. Lauderdale to San Francisco sailing on the Island Princess that goes through the Panama Canal and will give us our first visits in Colombia, Central America and Mexico. My research and checking says that we will be docking at Herman Cruise Terminal at Pier 27. This terminal opened September 25, 2014. In 2014, there were 73 ship calls with 250,000 passengers doing SF dockings. In 2015, they were planning for 81 calls and an anticipated 300,000 passengers. In one article, their Port Director said that they are competing with Seattle and Vancouver, British Columbia, that are nearer the popular Alaska and Northwest cruise destinations. Plus, Los Angeles is closer to Mexico. San Francisco's new terminal is described as "sleek glass and spanking new, is top of the line. Ships dock in the heart of the city right under Telegraph Hill." Below is a graphic that I put together to help see its location. The good news is that this terminal is not as "busy, busy" as many of us have had to manage in other areas such as Florida, in Europe and the Caribbean, etc. THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio Enjoyed a 14-day, Jan. 20-Feb. 3, 2014, Sydney to Auckland adventure, getting a big sampling for the wonders of "down under” before and after this cruise. toescat Posted February 20, 2017 #4 Share Posted February 20, 2017 Pier 27, however if another ship is in port Princess also uses pier 35. Pier 27 is new and much nicer than pier 35.
dfields1814 Posted February 20, 2017 #5 Share Posted February 20, 2017 The new terminal is pretty near the old terminal. It is about a 20 to 30 minute easy walk to the Wharf. The new terminal is off the street so taxis can drive up and drop you off without dealing with street traffic. We stayed at the wharf the night before the cruise. From there you can probably walk to the terminal pushing luggage but it would take a while and some effort. It was easier to take a taxi (or Uber) to the new Terminal. For us it was much more fun because the cab driver got into this heated argument with a security guy directing traffic! There was all kinds of bad words including the F bomb and obscene hand gestures, It was a great way to start our Alaska cruise!! A little excitement! Yosef42 Posted February 20, 2017 #6 Share Posted February 20, 2017 According to the Port of SF schedule, all of Island Princess's visits in 2017 will be at Pier 27. As noted above, Pier 35 is only used when there is more than one ship in port at the same time (15 times this year).

Rare TLCOhio Posted February 20, 2017 #9 Share Posted February 20, 2017 Pier 27: Appreciate these two visuals related to the SF terminal. But, we will not try to hang too long in this location. We have a noon tour scheduled to do Alcatraz Island in San Francisco Bay. Just think, we've got to pay money to go to prison?? BUT, the key is . . . Escaping Alcatraz! Hope we are successful. THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio From our Jan. 25-Feb. 20, 2015, Amazon River-Caribbean combo sailing over 26 days that started in Barbados, here is the link below to that live/blog. Lots of great visuals from this amazing Brazil river and these various Caribbean Islands (Dutch ABC's, St. Barts, Dominica, Grenada, etc.) that we experienced. joeyancho Posted February 21, 2017 #11 Share Posted February 21, 2017 There is a free shuttle from the docking facility to Fisherman's wharf. No need to walk.
