Breakaway Boarding Time

Recommended Posts

Hello - we will be leaving from New York on the Breakaway. The ship sails at 3:00 p.m. our documents say to arrive at the pier at 12:00.

Do they tell everyone to arrive at 12 or is that our scheduled time to arrive?

What times does boarding start?

What is the earliest we can arrive?

Thanks in advance for any help - I did look on here and ncl website but was unable to find an answer.

Boarding usually starts around 11ish. After everyone from the last cruise is off and the ship is cleared. We usually arrive around 9ish to beat the traffic.

If you are new to NCL, you would pick a time to arrive at the pier. If you are a frequent guest, or suites guest, you can arrive any time. You must check in at least 2 hours before sailing. We arrive between 10 and 10:30.

Suites guests, frequent guests, and casino guests will be boarded first. General boarding by group number (first come first serve) begins around 11:30.

4500 people need to get through security and checkin. Show up later and wait in a long line.

The choices you have at the NYC terminal are either show up early and walk right in with no line and then sit in the terminal for hours with nothing to do or show up "on time" and wait in line forever and then sit in the terminal for a shorter period of time.

You'll get on the ship no matter what, it just depends on if you want to stand in line and do nothing as you wait or get through the line and then do nothing as you sit.

This is my first time with NCL, I am all checked in online but it never asked me to pick a time. We were thinking about arriving around 10:00 a.m. but didn't know if that was too early.

That's not too early. Some people get there waaat before that. You wil just wait in the terminal until boarding begins.

PSSSSSSSST, I'm hoping to hook one of those Vibe passes. Well make that 2. Worth going super early for? Will we me made to wait outside?

You wont have to wait outside for anything, even if you arrive super duper early, at worst there is a waiting area inside the terminal before the security gate that they wont let you past.

As for getting a Vibe pass, that's all luck and if everyone ahead of you wants one, well then that sucks, but sometimes they have plenty. Getting there real early will get you an earlier number but it wont guarantee you'll be one of the first folks on the ship or get a pass.

Thanks. I am a firm believer in all things happen for a reason and what will be will be. I won't be super disappointed if I don't get the passes. Not even telling hubby about them unless they are available. We will get there around 9 and see what happens.

so if you arrive early - 10ish. is there a place to sit or do you just stand til they are ready
They start checking folks in around 9:30 AM after opening security screening for the BA - if you arrive around 10 AM, you should be able to proceed & get checked in, ready to wait for your turn to board. There are seating inside in different sections as directed. Haven (roped off sections) & other VIP/CAS/Plantium are grouped in different area but as the crowds grow, space would run out & then it's standing room only until boarding - starting around 11 to 11:15 for the above, following usually within 15 minutes for general boarding by zone card numbers given.

Since you are about 60 to 75 driving minutes from the pier, I would just check NYHarbor's webcam or BA's live webcam to get an idea of where the ship is around 7 or 7:30 AM, earlier if you are already up to get an idea if it's early (usual) or running late as that would impact on a smooth & good disembark, turnaround and embarkation timing - before leaving for the pier ... whether it's by car service or driven, etc. BA is typically passing under the VZ around 5:30 or 6 AM, SOL by 6 and slowly up the Hudson by 6:30 to 7 AM & docked within 30 minutes - even for the posted 8 AM arrival (sometimes, it's 10 AM ... but)
