$7.95 Room Service Charge

Recommended Posts

The way I read the FAQ, the whole $7.95 is a service charge - nothing for the food itself. Now, how much of that actually goes to the person who delivered will be debated for eons. Maybe this charge is in lieu of raising the daily grats and the $7.95 goes into the grats pool.

You are dreaming.

Still the extra $ for what's already been paid in full before boarding is even allowed ! Messed Up

All kinds of thing can change between the time you book and sail, including the somewhat less optional daily grats.

I'm kinda surprised RCI has not yet announced the grats going up to $13.99 like NCL.

I had not realized NCL raised their gratuities, How long has it been that way?

I admit I'm always looking for an ulterior motive, but my feeling is that they added the charge to discourage room service use. Cut down on those non-revenue crewmembers to free up berths for more sales type people.

LOL, that hurt. :D

Chapter 3 in the great book "A Husbands Guide to Surviving Marriage" says: To remain a love partner, the wise husband never says, "Honey, life isn't fair".

For the record, my love learned of the new charge and suggested the change. She had already flipped a coin several times between Royal and another new ship.

On a side: While your post suggest wisdom, we haven't sailed Carnival in 10 years, so I can't compare the eggs. But based on our recent sailing, Royal doesn't have anything to brag about.

I was just poking you. We traveled all the major lines in the beginning. Kind of like dating. The only one we didn't care for was NCL. Pretty monogamous with Royal since 2008

Cheers

I am an RCCL Emerald member, but did go on a Carnival Cruise to Canada once before, and somehow still managed to have great time. May I ask you how many Carnival cruises have you actually been on?

Actually 8 between 1989 and 2006. Then I grew up. 😉

I actually enjoyed most of them as I recall. Will probably pick up a few more in 2018 once this Pinnacle quest is completed.

What bothers me is the flat rate, especially for the all day menu. We love getting a carafe of coffee and a cookies in the late afternoon, but it's hard to justify $7.95 for this amount of food. As an aside, I agree with others who've said the room service coffee is better then coffee served elsewhere on the ship. No idea why that is, but I definitely found it to be true. Oh well, I guess we'll have to decide if the convenience (and the improved coffee) is worth the cost.

I don't like to be nickel and dimed, but I appreciate the changes to the menu and will likely order from it more now. Royal has a serious problem closing food venues so early. While I won't like paying the service charge, I'll do it for the better choices since my other option is that awful pizza.

Once the fee is implemented the question becomes, 'Can Royal get my room service order to me in less than an hour?'

The Pizza was much better on Harmony in January than in the past. According to the pizza chef.....they are now using the same dough as Celebrity.

I choose if I want to cruise, I choose if its Royal, I choose the room, I choose if I'll buy a beverage package, I choose if I buy specialty dining and now I'll choose if I want to pay for room service.

Hi drew. Hope you don't mind me stealing your line.

I chose all these things - and at the time of choosing - and the time of paying - "free" room service was on the cards. So, what I have "chosen" - is not what I am getting.

I keep saying I am not interested in $8 (or multiples of $8).... we are none of us short of money because if we were, we would likely not be having such vacations.

I am however VERY INTERESTED in principles, contracts and fairness. - guess that's just the socialist in me!

To add a different viewpoint, my other half is happy that the room service has a charge - because it will HAVE to be edible now!!

No worries Suzieanna, I do not disagree with you in principle however it appears many of us (myself included) do not read the fine print.

Is that the same coffee as the room service coffee, because it sure doesn't taste the same.

A question on the $7.95 per service call, don't you folks tip? It's at least $9.95 hit for me.

Burt

The 7.95 includes gratuity but you can obviously tip more

The Cafe Promenade is Seattles Best coffee, have read in reviews that it's much better than dining rooms coffee(I'm not a coffee drinker so can't give you my opinion of different tastes)

I can understand why you would feel that way. On the bright side, if you have a bad day, it seems you will be able to order from a better selection. Hope you don't have many of those dayk though.

Thanks!! I hope I don't have one of my can't walk at all days as well ... unfortunately I have had 3 back surgeries and have permanent sciatic nerve damage that continuously goes down my right leg into my foot - and never know from day to day how bad it's going to be - so ironically chose a cruise because of the room service option - just glad I know about $7.95 per order fee ahead of time!!

I'm wondering if they offer additional items on room service on formal nights for people who don't want to dress up - such as steak(they used to)

ANYONE SAILING LIBERTY OF THE SEAS once they implement new $7.95 fee can you check on steak for me??

I sure hope that conservatives care about such things as well!

I thought I read someplace (can't find it now) that the $7.95 included gratuity.
I've read that, and I've read questions about that. As most delivery services have realized by now, the cruise line must also realize that if it doesn't include the gratuity they would have to state that explicitly. Making patrons guess is stupid.

I know that this was supposed to already have rolled out on several ships, has anyone heard/seen any reviews of the new menu?

There's a periscope review on Majesty in which they seemed to like the new menu choices.

Thanks for the menu.

First, doesn't include bran muffins. If we write in, do they charge us $7.95? Also, no prunes and no prune juice. In fact, we couldn't get any prunes on Liberty at all. I guess they're no longer trying to accommodate the older people.

Do they still have the menus that can hung on the door handles?
