Too much On Board Credit

Recommended Posts

We have a lot of OBC for our next cruise that we got from Royal. We didn't pre pay the tips so we'll use some for that. But we will be left with more than we can use and don't want to lose it since it's non-refundable.

I remember reading a way to cash it in thru the casino or guest services but I'm not sure how to do that. Does anybody be have any tips for us? Thanks.

You can go to the Casino and get a cash advance against your onboard account. They will charge 5% for this.

However, if you have a cash type onbard account, they waive the 5% fee.

I had the same issue last week on Anthem. I setup as Cash Account when we boarded. Used RoyaliQ app to track account expenses. On day 6, I went to Casino Cashier's Window and stated that I had a cash account and wanted to take out $200 (Think limit is $500 per day). The cashier said no problem. No fee was charged. I had quite a bit of Bonus OBC (Non refundable) and also I had purchased OBC last year during a promotion. This OBC was refundable. So I just wanted to make sure I took out enough to get all the non-refundable bonus OBC in Cash. After the casino, we went to guest services and gave them a credit card to put on my account. When we disembarked on Sunday, they credited the remainder of my OBC to my credit card and I saw it yesterday on my CC account that it had been posted on Sunday, the day we got off.

All that being said, OBC goes by pretty fast. We had prepaid: Grats, Excursions, specialty restaurants, Beverage and internet packages. We still spent over $1300 on various "Stuff" But we only Cruise about every 2 years and this was for a family of 4 Including 2 teens. DS spent $31, DD spent $375

We missed a stop one time because the ship had engine trouble and they gave everyone a crazy amount of OBC I used to to buy a TAG on the ship.

Not to be nosy but what's the going rate for a Tag on the ship. I've always wanted one.

I got mine at Costco. $800. Had it for 16 years. Bought DH one in Nassau for a little over $600. Hardly ever have any problems with DH's. Mine seems to eat batteries. I think in 15 years we've changed DH's battery maybe twice. Mine goes through a battery a year.

We had a back to back on Freedom in Dec with the GETTER program with $300.00 OBC from Royal for each . It was not refundable and after doing specialty Rests. and a few purchases went to casino and drew cash. $5.00 on each $100.00 . Better than just buying stuff you really don't want.
