Love.II.Cruise Posted March 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted March 25, 2017 What can you truly use your NON-REFUNDABLE On Board Credit (OBC) for? Our travel agent said we could not use if for the Casino or for Gratuities. Is this true??

Rare Turtles06 Posted March 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted March 25, 2017 You can't use non-refundable OBC to pay the DSC (daily service charge). But you *can* use it if you want to give additional tips to anyone. Just go to Guest Services, give them the name and job title of the person(s) and the amount you want to tip, and they'll put that money into the crewmember's account, where he/she can use it like cash. Also, they'll give you a voucher to give to that person, so he/she knows about the tip. (We always travel with thank you cards; they are good for things like this, or tipping in cash at the end.) Non-refundable OBC can be used for anything on your account other than the DSC. (Specialty dining charges, beverages, etc.) I can't answer your casino question from experience, and I'm sure others will be able to, but I'm pretty certain from what I've read on here that you can't just take $100 in non-refundable OBC and turn it into $100 in the casino (that would effectively make it refundable). It used to be that you could cash it out for a fee, like 3%, but I'm not sure if that's still the case.

In Toronto Posted March 25, 2017 #8 Share Posted March 25, 2017 Now I am confused! I had understood that you can charge, let's say, $100.00, to you on board account at the casino. Receive $97.00 (3percent charge). Then you can use that money to gamble in the casino or do whatever with the cash. Has that changed?

Has that changed? if you put in $100 in your on board account, that would be a refundable OBC and you can use it for whatever you want. if you got it as a promotion or from NCL it could be non-refundable which would not allow you to use it for gratuities and for the casino. TYSONBOXER Posted March 26, 2017 #11 Share Posted March 26, 2017 If you still have OBC left and you are near the end of you cruise, just go to any shop on board and buy something. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

cb at sea Posted March 26, 2017 #13 Share Posted March 26, 2017 NCL does that so THEY are not paying YOUR gratuities or gambling expenses. You can (and should) use it for everything else.

waterwitch35 Posted March 26, 2017 #17 Share Posted March 26, 2017 How does the cruise line distinguish between non-refundable OBC and refundable OBC (as for the military)? If there are OBCs remaining in one's account, how do they know which is which?

If there are OBCs remaining in one's account, how do they know which is which? Your account shows which OBC are refundable and which are non-refundable. The non-refundable are applied first. If those are all used, then the refundable are applied. Because the OBC are identified it is easy to know what kind of OBC are left.

iaswam Posted March 29, 2017 #25 Share Posted March 29, 2017 I wonder then if you purchase a future cruise deposit on your on board account it could be applied to the balance due after the on board credit given from this future cruise deposit..:) We purchased 2 cruise deposits which entitled us to a matching OBC equal to one deposit. We had already incurred more charges than the credit so it essentially reduced what we owed at the end of the cruise. Hope that helps! :)
