Empty cruiise-Rhapsody of the Seas July 8

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of booking the Rhapsody of the Seas on July 8 sailing from Venice. As far as I can tell, there are a lot of cabins open- like 30 or more in every category. Should I wait for a price drop? Also is there something I am missing about this cruise? Is it dangerous or are the ports bad? Any and all feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Could also be timing maybe. We are also cruising out of Venice, but not til October. Not sure of your itinerary, but it may not be one that people with kids would do, especially on this smaller ship. For the rest of us, July is very hot in that part of the world, and so we avoid the summer crowds with children, and go in the fall. Maybe that's why? But don't worry. You'll get more space and attention while on board, less crowding, and maybe even free upgrades!

I will be sailing with my husband and two sons ages 18 and 14. We have sailed previously on Disney, but this cruise seems to fit our schedule better and I love Venice. My husband is worried about danger at the ports. He is from a very small rural town and has only been out of the country a few times. Are these ports safe? I think this cruise might have been originally going to Ephesus which would have been amazing, but that is why he is hesitant. Most of the other Med cruises are fully booked, so I was concerned with the number of open cabins. My kids are too old for the kids' clubs so that doesn't bother me. We will also be traveling in Germany and Switzerland prior to this cruise so we will be ready for some down days.

I just looked at your ports--only 4? They are different than ours in October. I don't know about safety, but I don't think the ship would go there if it wasn't reasonably safe. Be aware of pick pockets when on shore.

When I looked up your sailing, still noticed them advertising tours in that area throughout July, so are you sure they are sold out? I don't think ours is sold out yet either as they are still advertising it as well. At any rate, don't worry about it. Fewer people on board might mean better service in general.

Considering prices are dropping before final, I'd bet they will drop even more on the other side. The ports are not the most exciting and that could the issue or the length. The bigger issue may be flights - those could get real expensive. So you could get a real deal on the cruise and pay out the nose for the flights. You are only a week away from final - you might as well wait till about 60 days out to see what happens (normally the time of big price drops), but if you plan to book, get those plane tickets ASAP.

Then you are set to wait. Don't jump at the first drop on the other side of final - RCI prices usually stair step down. It's hard to gauge the prices since last year the ship only did 10 and 11 night itineraries and this is only 6 nights. I usually wait till the price drops to about $100pp pd but that may not happen on this. I'd aim for an X GTY rate below $900 (currently at $1200+) or $600 for an inside.

hello we are sailing on the Rhapsody July 8th :D The ports are not dangerous and are certainly interesting and 2 days at sea will be relaxing , hopefully not many children and I like the idea of the cruise not being full .

If you book we might see you on board .

  • 2 weeks later...
Unless the cabins start selling better, there will be continuous drops - some probably right after final (which is next week). Look for this sailing on the GGG flier and start checking prices daily.

Would you have a link for the GGG flyer? I can never find it. TIA

Just taken a look at this cruise on a website I use for cabin availability which is always very accurate. Insides are sold out as are all higher suites except for 3 GSs. There are a lot of outside cabins left but only a handful of balconies. There are also many many JSs available but I would think that this is because of the ridiculously high price they are asking for a 6 day cruise. They're the ones that will drop in price I would think.

whats the website you use to check the cabin availability ?

Sorry, as it's a travel agent I am not allowed to give the name on here or will be banned from the site  Seriously - it's happened before. It's a shame there's not private message option on here

It's a German website which specialises in cruising.

Yes I look on the UK site but you have to do a dummy booking and check each cabin category separately to see availability I just wondered if there was a simpler way you could see what was available on each deck ?

Google what I put in the last line of my previous post and scan the results
