Which cabin would you choose?

We're sailing on the Norwegian Pearl on December 23rd. Our TA booked us into cabin 8010 which is an OA category but it appears to be directly under the theater at the front of the ship. This is our children's (6 & 8) first cruise so I'm a bit worried about the location and movement. I'm also concerned about noise from the theater and from what I've read it's very close to the anchor.

We're thinking about moving to an O1 category (5582 or 5590) but I can't find much in the way of reviews on these cabins either.

If you had to choose based on location, which would you choose? 8010 or 5582?

You will definitely hear the theater in 8010. I was in a similar location and it is mostly practice during the day and through the last show. After 10:30 or so at night it was quiet so it would depend on when your children usually go to bed. If you are not trying to day nap them in the cabin it would be okay.

As far as deck five, I would keep aft of the rear stairwell, forward of that is the MDR's galley and forward of that is the casino. Of the three I'd go with 5590, it is under the staff walkway to the kitchen and is carpeted. Possible vacuuming in the early morning and you may get some pronounced engine/propeller vibration when maneuvering, but it's not to bad once underway.

When looking an ocean views on Jewel class with Bliss at the aft I would go for OK on deck 8, or OG on deck 4, or an OC deck 5 forward under the meeting rooms or aft under dining room. Each category/cabin can have it's own drawbacks.

I would Not chose 8010 (directly over the theatre) or 5582 (next to midship staircase and directly under all the bars on Deck 6). 5590 would be directly under one of the main dining rooms.

I would pick something as close to the center of the ship both top to bottom and front to back, making sure there are no bars or restaurants above or below you.

Enjoy

I was once on the 9th deck starboard on the Pearl (over the theatre) and could definitely hear some sound. Someone on the port side same deck over the theatre said they could hear every word sung.

We were able to switch to 8620 and I have a feeling we'll be thankful we did. The kids do tend to crash earlier than most other kids so the theater would definitely be an issue.

Too bad I haven't been able to find many reviews of 8620 or pictures of the actual cabin. I'm curious as to what to expect. We've never had an oceanview cabin but I'm excited about taking the kids on their first cruise!

There is a difference in ride.

8010 on the bow end has more bounce and slap.

8620 on the aft. will have more of a shimmy feel.

I like the aft.

I actually think that will be worse noise wise. Bliss Night Club goes late into the night. OA on other Jewel class ships are fine, not the ones that are above Bliss.

Unfortunately the only OA's available were 8010 or 8620. I think 8620 will be easier to disguise with a really loud white noise machine. We're going to keep an eye on it and if something more ideal opens up we'll try to switch.

I'm not sure why you need to move "upward" only. You are before final payment, is it a travel agent thing that wont let you "downgrade" to a lower category? Anyway, what happened to 5590?

5590 is an O1 and would cost us $300 more. We're sailing on a budget and we would rather save that $300 for something else. I'm not sure where you got that we need to move "upward". I was open to changing to an O1 because on ncl.com they were the same price as the OA on our sailing. However, our TA was able to get a better rate on the OA and now the O1's are more expensive.

Did you look at any OK on deck 8, or OG on deck 4, or an OC deck 5 forward under the meeting rooms or aft under dining room. I think those are better cabins, even though some have portholes or are obstructed view, and are usually less expensive.

I would be happy to move down but DH wouldn't. We already discussed that possibility and he vetoed it.

It's NCL who considers them a lower cabin, I would pick many of them over most of Pearl's OA.

I've given some poor info:

- I forgot OC max out at three people

- I juxtaposed 5590 &5582 as 5590 is just under the galley and 5582 is under the Indigo MDR

- I left out OF portholes on deck 4 which aren't bad

I was in 8114 on the Pearl. I liked the location as it was close to O'Sheehan's and the atrium. I did not hear any music from the nightclub, but I was up a bit further. The Pearl has bowling alleys under these cabins. A few times I heard some yelling from people bowling, but it wasn't that loud nor that often. Lots of kids in those cabins on my cruise. I think you will be fine and if you get a chance to bid for a mini suite up on deck 11, go for it!
