Spurschick Posted May 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted May 11, 2017 I am currently looking at cruises for next summer. The best cruise catching my attention for length of cruise, dates and itinerary is Royal Princess. Has anyone sailed Royal Princess before and which Royal ship would you most liken it to? Any thoughts on food, activities, teens on Princess etc. would be welcomed.
easyboy Posted May 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted May 11, 2017 Maybe you can also cross post this on Princess Board to get more feedback on Royal Princess. Sent from my iPad using Forums
Blizzard54 Posted May 11, 2017 #3 Share Posted May 11, 2017 You might want to ask the question in the Princess section.
Spurschick Posted May 11, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted May 11, 2017 Thank you both for your advice. I was hoping to find someone who mainly sails Royal Caribbean that had tried Princess for a comparison. Loyal royals are more likely to have sailed different class RCCL ships to give me a better comparison of features. I can't believe no-one here has sailed Royal Princess! I'll try the Princess board. karena1 Posted May 11, 2017 #5 Share Posted May 11, 2017 We have been on many Royal cruises and have done a few Princess, recently the Regal which is a sister ship to Royal. It was amazing! Loved everything about it. Way less kids as expected but food, service, etc was outstanding. Ship was gorgeous, hubby thought the Horizon Court Buffet was absolutely spot on. As far as comparing to Royal Caribbean, based on size I would say the Voyager Class, but I can tell you I cannot believe you would not love it. We are going on Princess again in Dec and have FCC with Princess to book another one. Love it just as much as Royal

JMG Posted May 11, 2017 #7 Share Posted May 11, 2017 We have cruised Princess a few times but we have not been on Royal Princess. On Princess we found quite a few from the UK that were doing B2B cruises. Given the cost of airfare from the UK, Princess apparently markets B2B "deals" for the UK. We found it enjoyable to talk to passengers from he UK. Food, entertainment, and all else appeared to be very similar to RCI. I would go for itinerary. We have tried several cruise lines and the all have pros and cons but they all provide an enjoyable vacation. Going back several years when some of the islands did not have piers, several ships arrived at Grand Cayman and the seas were rough. All of the Captains decided it was too rough to tender. The Captain of our Princess ship knew of a small pier on the side of the island that was protected from the waves. The Captain contacted local authorities and got permission to tender to that pier. The ship and shore excursion buses headed to that pier. We watched all the other ships keep on sailing! Obviously, it made for a memorable cruise. matj2000 Posted May 12, 2017 #8 Share Posted May 12, 2017 Although I have not done the Royal or Regal. I have done a couple other Princess ships and liked them very much. Would definitely recommend Princess any day.....
Rare Kmkub Posted May 12, 2017 #9 Share Posted May 12, 2017 Most of our cruising has been on Princess. We've been on both the Regal and the Royal. Fantastic ships, really. Hubby and I consider it the cruise when we're alone. Not a ton of kids on Princess, so it's more romantic for us. I have nothing truly negative to say about either ship. (Everyone can nitpick every line, though.) I can't comment on RC, though - we're planning our first cruise on the Indy in November.
Spurschick Posted May 12, 2017 Author #10 Share Posted May 12, 2017 Thank you all for your thoughts. DD has predominantly sailed RC. Being a teen she knows what RC has to offer and is comfortable being familiar with the ships and is a little hesitant to move away from her comfort zone. Unfortunately The RC cruises for the dates I need are a little too long and are doing itineraries we have already done. I'd looked at the MSC due to the price match but the ship reviews are not great. Will probably wait to try that on one of the newer ships. I have to say the reviews I have read on the Royal Princess are good, and the itinerary also good. The only reservation I have is it offers two departure ports. You can do a 12 night from Le Havre or 12 nights departing the next day from Southampton. I'm not sure how that would impact the guests sailing round trip from Southampton on the day in Le Havre due to guests trying to disembark whilst other guests are trying to get off for excursions. I have a feeling this is what we will end up booking. If anyone else has any more feedback I'd greatly appreciate it. Also how do cabins on Princess compare to Royal.? We did the Caribbean Princess, which is much older than the Royal. As far as the ship goes, the CB was on par with the Voyager Class. We missed the Royal promenade and Studio B but loved that they had a pool deck that was not all cluttered up with other stuff. Shows and other entertainment were not as good, but casinos and bar service were much better. Dining food and service were about the same without the grandeur of the 3 story dining room. We like the cabin layout with a quasi walk in closet across from the bathroom even though it made the cabin feel smaller. Have been twice on the Regal and just booked the Royal Princess last week for November. I have been on both the Caribbean and Ruby but don't care for those class of ships. In the future I will only go on their newest ships. But give it a try, you will love it.
