What's the most unusual things spotted on open ocean?

A submarine, half submerged and running alongside us, in the Baltic Sea.

We saw this too on the Baltic cruise. Must be a frequent occurrence.

On the way to Hawaii I saw a parachute blowing above the tail of a small plane that had ditched. The Veendam rescued the pilot, mentioned it here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2157281

We were dive bombed by Cuban military. We saw boat people and picked them up. We also had a near miss with a small boat that didn't move and captain waited too long to steer around which meant we were listing very badly! We were in the dining room for lunch and all the plates went flying!
