How does My Time Dining work?

Recommended Posts

Hello. We are new to Royal Caribbean and chose My Time Dining. I was looking around at our reservation on their website and under dining there is a place to sign up for reservation times for My Time Dining for each night of the cruise. Do you have to pick times for each day or can you just show up and possibly wait to get a table? The reason we picked My Time Dining is so that we didn't have to be at a certain place at a certain time. Thanks!

You don't have to make reservation, but it makes sense if you want to have it at certain time on a particular day without a long wait, or want a particular sized table and don't want to wait for it.

Probably a good idea to reserve each night at a time you think you might like to have dinner. You can coordinate dinner times with the shows you reserved; you can base it on the port/excursions you have a particular day when you might want a later dining time; etc

These reservations are not cast in stone and you can tweak them on board. On some nights the dining room was not busy and on others, like formal night, it was packed and the non reservation line was long. Best to make reservations now. We were only a party for two and found a limited number of MTD tables for two so we were glad we reserved.

You do not have to make reservations. You can just show up and wait for a table but just like land based restaurants, you may have to wait awhile especially during the most popular times.

Perfect! Thank you. We are used to waiting for tables and don't usually eat at popular times.

I would recommend making reservations on formal nights. I made reservations for those nights only and was glad that I did. I overheard the hostess tell one group of 4 that it would be 1 1/2 to 2 hour wait and this was at 6:30. And we just sailed last week so it was not like the ship was packed.

Which ship was this on? Seems like some ships handle MTD better than others .

I know you made reservations for your table of 2, by any chance did you have to wait for your table ?

....I'm not sure what we will do for formal night.

Formal Night (especially if lobster is being served that night on your sailing) is extremely busy. A reservation might help but generally speaking, WOW! Busy. So don't be surprised - just a little heads up.

I hope you enjoy your fist RCI cruise. :D

There seemed to be a limited number of tables for two. One night they asked for our approval and then escorted us to the restaurant on deck 4. Since we had reservations we never really waited and on most nights we were seated in the same section with the same wait staff in the MTD room. We made our reservations for 6:30 to 7:00 each night and had no problem making the shows we reserved. This was our first experience on the Allure and we really felt that it was beneficial pre reserving and coordinating all our show and dining times.

We did MTD, but booked a 730 reservation every night, and asked for and received the same table and wait staff. If we were hungry earlier, we did a drive by the WJ and grabbed a snack.

On Explorer it was a bit difficult to reserve a table for two for certain times sometimes, but once we got reservation we never had to wait.
