Leaving NYC

Starboard is not only the best, it's the only side. Which time of year are you cruising? In late summer or fall the sun sets somewhere behind the statue, making photography difficult. In winter it's too dark for pix. I've had more luck catching her right at dawn on the return trip.

While I do agree, the port side (or aft) offers spectacular views of city skyline. When returning, starboard offers great sunrise shots over the city and port of lady liberty bathed in sunrise light.

It is best to shoot your photos after the ship passes the Statue so you can get a full face in your shot. If you start shooting before, the angle will give you the back of her head or a partial facial view.

You'll be passing the Freedom Tower and Ground Zero about the same time as the Statue, so take photos of the skyline from the port side first and then move over to starboard to capture Lady Liberty.
