Price Drop with No Inventory?

Recommended Posts

We have booked the Harmony for July 07, 2018 (21 days from now). It was a Casino Royale comp that I upgraded to a WS guarantee. There were no suites of any kind on their website or on the UK website. When I booked it. Hoping that might mean an upgrade to a "real" suite. I've been checking many times a day, everyday. And there was a GS available a week or so ago but when I tried to "ghost" book it, it wasn't available. Called today to see if "I" could book a suite. And they told me there was no inventory. There still are Balconies, Oceanviews, and Insides. But no suites.

I am thinking that they are relying on a last minute cancellation. Which is fine with me.

If there is no cabin. I'm hoping they can move us over to the Oasis for the next day. A refund isn't in our best interests, due to the comped cruise and the low cost to upgrade ($700).

Something similar happened to me recently before final payment.

I saw our category had dropped by $250 pp. but couldn’t price it for some reason.

My TA checked it out and said they were only selling the cabins in that category that held at least a party of 3 and there were only 2 of us.

A few days later I tried another dummy booking and it worked but was even cheaper!

Called my TA and sure enough we saved $1,000. The next day it was sold out in our category.

It pays to price check often.[emoji16]

Found the same thing today for our Allure cruise in October. Central park balconies haven't even been an option for a couple of months now but suddenly popped back up today. Clicked on it because the price seemed lower than what we booked at but it said there were none available. Was thinking about calling RC to ask this very question.

A call would be a good idea. I've found my chats with Royal folks very enlightening and helpful. I have recently been advised by 'Jeanne' that there are actually many more staterooms available than appear on their website.

That's bizarre. I wouldn't think to call if I didn't see what I wanted; I'd just book a different cruise (or cruise line). I'd think they'd want to make it as easy/straightforward to take my money, but, as evidenced by the website woes, RCI thinks differently.

Especially the US site. The UK site and some TA web sites show a lot more but even they probably don't see all inventory.

I have encountered a price reduction 2 times on a sold out category spacious ocean view and spacious with balcony. I book early because of my kids school etc. I wait patiently and hope for kids sail free. I called first time and even though royal rep said category full they still price dropped me to current promotion and mystery current rate was. Saved over 1k. Same thing last year. It is possible but not likely sometimes. Depends on who you talk to on the phone. Lol
