Rare Cruise Raider Posted June 29, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 29, 2017 I don't see any news stories reporting on Noro Virus outbreaks, Are they going unreported? From the CDC website: You can get norovirus illness at any time during the year, but, it is most common in the winter. Also, there can be 50% more norovirus illness in years when there is a new strain of the virus going around.
cb at sea Posted June 29, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Prepare for it to "fire up" in September, when schools reconvene. Kids are the main carriers!!! Schools are rampant with it...and they, in turn, give it to parents, and grandparents...who in turn, bring it on ships, to hotels, to nursing homes, etc... Perhaps it is because they are not obsessive about hand washing... I think you are right ... it does ramp up when the kiddos are back in school. Kartgv Posted June 29, 2017 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2017 Here's a link to the CDC outbreak report: https://www.cdc.gov/nceh/vsp/surv/gilist.htm#2017 There does seem to be a dramatic drop-off in occurrences this year - only 2 outbreaks (and one of those not confirmed as Noro) this year, compared to 11 by this time last year. I doubt if outbreaks are going unreported - if they were caught the penalties would be severe and the PR even worse. Or...possibly the cruise industry is getting better at containing outbreaks and keeping them below the reportable threshold - wouldn't that be nice!
