wandergal Posted July 6, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 6, 2017 First cruise on Princess line, so I would like to know if there is currency exchange on board the ship. We are sailing on a 12-day British Isles cruise in August. I will need some cash in Euros and GBPs. On other cruises, you could exchange US dollars for the current port's currency. Is it the same on Princess or will I have to find an ATM after we dock?
chicopaige Posted July 6, 2017 #2 Share Posted July 6, 2017 Went on same cruise in June. There are ATM's on ship to get both pounds and euro but the exchange rate is horrible.
Rare Shelly97060 Posted July 6, 2017 #3 Share Posted July 6, 2017 Yes they have a machine on board but the exchange rate is beyond terrible. I used it once and NEVER again. I typically buy foreign currency at home before travel and if we need more we get it from an ATM once we arrive at our destination.
casofilia Posted July 6, 2017 #4 Share Posted July 6, 2017 Yes you can exchange but the rate is even worse than on shore and the charge for doing it is exorbitant. Buy it at home before you leave.
easyboy Posted July 6, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 6, 2017 There are currency exchange machines. Suggest you just use it if your currency exchanged in your local bank runs out. Sent from my SGH-M919 using Forums mobile app
frugaltravel Posted July 6, 2017 #6 Share Posted July 6, 2017 I always use an ATM in each port town. Usually very convenient and my bank reimburses me for all ATM fees.
paul929207 Posted July 6, 2017 #7 Share Posted July 6, 2017 We always use the ATM in town. Exchange rates and fees on board are ridiculous.
nukesubsailor Posted July 6, 2017 #8 Share Posted July 6, 2017 We used an ATM machine at the London airport.
Pam in CA Posted July 6, 2017 #9 Share Posted July 6, 2017 Yes, there is a currency exchange ATM but use it as a last resort only if there's absolutely no other option. Exchange rate is bad plus there's a service fee. Much better to either exchange currency before leaving home or wait until you dock. If you have leftover currency, you can always keep it for another trip or turn it in at the Passenger Services Desk as credit on your folio. Exchange will still be bad but no service fee and more convenient than bringing it home.
