Lobster on night other than "Cruise Elegant"

Has anyone been on a cruise where they served lobster at a dinner in the MDR (and not for an upcharge) other than on a cruise elegant or formal night? Quite frankly, we're over the whole elegant night tradition at this point in our cruising lives but I will NEVER miss out on lobster. I know some people love elegant night and some hate it, but I dress up to varying degrees for work and don't really care to do it on vacation. Bringing a couple jackets, slacks, shoes and dress shirts for the two elegant nights takes up half of my suitcase every cruise and really kills the storage space in the cabin.

I haven't done a sailing longer than 8 or 9 days so I wasn't sure if they switch up the menus on the longer cruises.

I suppose I could just order the $20 lobster - which was delicious on the Pride at the end of May - but I like to save my money for the casino ;).

Here is what I would do if it were me and is exactly what I do now. Take a pair of khaki type pants and a button up dress shirt or even polo type shirt and go enjoy your lobster on elegant night :) I wouldnt worry with the jacket, tie, dress shoes etc. You will be just as dressed as most and even over dressed compared to some.

Every cruise I've been on, lobster has only been served on the first formal night. I've been on 7 and 8 day cruises, and a 12 day cruise.

I did order the lobster that I had to pay for, and it was very good.

I have not seen lobsters included on any of our 25 Carnival cruises except for cruise elegant night.

I do agree with what everyone has mentioned on dress code. A pair of black slacks, and a polo is all I wear now. My wife tends to go with a nice blows and black skirt or slacks.

Have a great cruise!

Agree with above. I just go with dress pants, nice shirt and tie. No Jacket. You will not be out of place and certainly not overdressed. I have seen t-shirts on elegant night many times.

Of coarse, that was out of Texas.

All I bring is a pair of dockers and a button up dress shirt and I'm not the only only one dress this way either. I'm on vacation last thing I want to do is dress up with slacks, dress shirt & tie and dress shoes. Yeah, it takes up a lot of space in your suitcase. I try to only pack 1 suitcase when traveling because airline baggage fees, space, carrying them around, space in the car going to and from the airport. But like others have said you won't be the only one dressed in dockers and button up shirt there.

Once you do get your "elegant" attire on and go to the MDR, order more then 1 lobster tail. Lots of people don't realize you can order more then 1 main plate, appetizer, side dish. Order as much as you think you can eat. Order 3 or 4 lobster tails. They won't bat an eye at the request. Get your fill

People are so funny with lobster. It's as if you can't buy the small, low quality tails for a few bucks at the grocery store. It's just a bit humorous the reaction and insanity around lobster.

I totally feel the same way about the Warm Melting Chocolate goo. Pretty much the nastiest stuff I have ever put in my mouth. Never understood the craze and hype of the "honey stung chicken" down the hall either. Its a frozen chicken pattie from Tysons for the love of Mike. Lobster is something a large majority of people just dont eat at home Im guessing. The fact that they are "free" and you can get as many as you want is why there is such a reaction Im thinking. Ive had way more overcooked, rubbery lobster tails on a cruise than I have had good ones. Thats for sure

Wait a second, that chocolate cake is pretty good! Much better than the lobster.

Maybe I'm just spoiled with good shellfish living down here. Joes, Rustic, etc. Plus I used to catch all the lobster I could eat. Spiny lobster just isn't all that good compared to quality Maine lobster and it's always cooked poorly on the cruise ship as you said.

I fully understand that lobster isn't the luxury food that it once was and is available at reasonable prices at most grocery stores. I've bought lobster several times at grocery stores since the prices have dropped. Unfortunately my lobsters have NEVER turned out good in 4-5 tries. I've boiled them a 2-3 times and broiled and grilled once each and they have always been substandard.

I can make prime rib, steaks, ribs, salmon and chicken all better than what I'll get on the ship. Lobster just isn't something I have a knack for preparing. The MDR's swordfish is also better than what I've ever made myself, and I think I do a pretty good job in that area ;)

The preparation of lobster on cruise ships is assembly line and really not that impressive. Every time I end up getting it I'm always disappointed. Plus it's the quality of the lobster. Spiny lobster just isn't all that great compared to Maine. It's so easy to cook though, maybe you are just overcooking?

They only serve lobster on the one elegant night. As other posters said, you will be fine with a pair of khaki's and a button shirt.

For the folks that say that's not appropriate, have they ever really looked around the dining room to see what every one is wearing? I have to wonder if they've actually been on a cruise.

You don't need all that.

Can't say I've ever seen it other than a formal night.

Weird, IMO ... lobster can be messy ... I would prefer it on another night, but it is what it is.

I also look for to it as I eat 2 or 3 ... 100 calories a tail ... and $40+ at Red Lobster or some other seafood restaurant. I'll take it! LOL

I go with khakis and a button up shirt. Honestly the huge debates over dress on elegant night could probably be alleviated if they would serve the Prime Rib, lobster, and ribs, on casual nights. I'd skip elegant night completely if it didn't have some of my favorite foods.

EGG-ZACKLY!

My FIL swears they only do elegant night in order to make $$$ off the pictures. Makes some sense to me.

Agree with your FIL, pictures are a huge money maker....I don't understand the mindset of some posters, they get vile about the whole setup....You aren't FORCED to buy the pictures, so I don't get why they are so upset that it is offered? Some people love the pictures, why wouldn't they be offered?
