Rare Solent Richard Posted July 7, 2017 #1 Share Posted July 7, 2017 Reported on one of my Cunard Facebook groups early yesterday evening was a meeting between Queen Elizabeth, departing Invergorden, on her 'Round Britain Cruise, and the Royal Navy's latest aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth. A friend posted some pictures of the meeting which we are happy to share... The friend commented it was a wonderful meeting with horns blasting and cheering from both sides. john watson Posted July 8, 2017 #5 Share Posted July 8, 2017 I believe the Royal Navy had and previous ship called HMS Queen Elizabeth, a battleship which fought in WW1 and WW2 and survived until 1948. Launched in 1913, Portsmouth she was a dreadnought type ship and apparently named in honour of Queen Elizabeth (the first). There have been many ships called "Queen Elizabeth" but surprisingly not many were named after our current monarch, Cunard's RMS Queen Elizabeth was not named after our current queen and some schools of thought believe the QE2 was named after the eponymous Cunarder and not the monarch.
