Azura Cabin number changed - Why?

My cruise agent told me that their default position is to tick the 'no upgrade' box, unless instructed otherwise. Too many complaints about undesirable upgrades over the years!

I think you need to analyse the position before deciding. For example, if you are booking the top grade of balcony cabin and the only possible upgrade is a suite, then maybe tick yes. Unless you don't like the position of the suites perhaps!

Do not understand what the confusion is all about if you agree to an upgrade anything that is a higher grade or dearer than the grade you are booking then it is an upgrade and P&O will automatically move you. An upgrade from an inside midships to an outside aft or forward are classified as an upgrade, you would not be moved from midships inside to aft or forward because they are lower grade and cheaper and is the same with balcony staterooms.

Correct. That is the system currently in practice. Whether or not all travel agents are knowledgeable enough to manage it is another matter.

That's very very true. Our excellent specialist Cruise TA has always asked which option we want with a choice of 1. No upgrade 2. Automatic upgrade. 3. Upgrade to different cabin type. We always opt for 3 unless travelling with family when we need cabins close by so don't want upgrading.

However you could be moved from midship to aft or forward if it was to a cabin on a higher deck, because P&O categorise higher decks as higher grades. (Many people however prefer lower decks since they are more stable.)

Easy then they should ask for no upgrade and then there is no problem. Trouble is people hope to get something for nothing and think an upgrade means balcony or suite.

Yes, that is exactly what everybody has been saying in this thread! I wasn't arguing with that, just pointing out that what you said wasn't totally accurate as you can actually be moved from midship to aft or forward with an 'upgrade' within a type of cabin.

Instead of "upgrade", would "re-location" be better wording?

I think that would remove the assumption that the change is better than it actually is.

What do you think?

:)

The reason the cruise line call it an upgrade is because all the cabins have a grade relating to that cabin and it's a chance of getting a higher grade one. This should be well known at the time of booking when you go for a balcony like ones partner insists but then notice you can save £100 a head by going for the lowest grade balcony. The travel agent appeases the other half by suggesting you can opt into accepting upgrades which are free. At this moment she is imagining Royal Suites and you are thinking no extra cost involved. When it happens she is very disappointed as no Royal Suite comes your way but you accept the situation as you have a higher grade that would have been £200 more. But no Royal Suite comes your way. It is a bit like when you were not married and you take a girl back to her place in your spyder and she invites you in for coffee. You are expecting a nice creamy cup, you are thinking coffee but it is a total let down as no coffee comes your way. This is life.
