Escape Haven

Where is the best place for sail away in the Haven on the Escape? Do they have anything special for sail away for Haven guests?

The Havens sun deck all the wary forward. 180+ degree views during sailaway. BUT,,, since it is the smoking area, there are often inconsiderate people smoking in the crowds of people out there for sailaway. We always head non-stop up to the sun deck after muster to stake out a good viewing spot.

Non-smoker here, but why are people inconsiderate for smoking in the smoking area? I would think they are being considerate by following the rules?

^^^ What the non-smoker means is that the Escape upper sun deck is tiny! It's seriously tiny for the large amount of guests the Escape accommodates in the Haven. THEN, probably 1/3 of that tiny space is the only Haven designated smoking area. As a non smoker, it would be almost impossible to be up there and not be in the smoke.

My thought, having been on three Breakaway Class Haven cruises with my fourth coming up Sept 2nd, is that during sail away time many people including non smokers like myself would like to enjoy the great views that come with the front area of the Haven Sundeck but either can't or don't because it is a smoking section. Other times on the cruise the smoking can be noticeable but not bad. I sit out on the sundeck all day and for the most part the glass walls that separate the smoking section from the rest of the sun deck provide adequate protection from the smoke. For me I some times suck it up and endure the smoke and hang on the Haven sundeck during sail away or I head elsewhere if I just can't take it.

In my opinion The sail away from Miami can be enjoyed better from the other side of the ship that side has better views of South Beach, Miami Skyline etc. so it's not a big deal to leave the Escape Haven sundeck and head to other parts of the ship, I tend to walk around from side to side to see the various port and starboard views, the forward view from the Haven sundeck really is just looking down the channel to open seas, the view from the Aft areas has more sights to see. Now on a NY Harbor Sail Away the Haven sundeck is a perfect place to be located for the best views of the Statue of Liberty for that I sucked it up and endured the smoke for that sail away but it would be nice if smoking was suspended there for the 60 minutes at best that make up a sail away more enjoyable for all Haven guests. Flip side it's not that long so for me a person who is really sensitive to second hand smoke I just endure if I want that view, I then avoid the area whenever there are heavy smokers there. The only other time I recommend sucking it up and enduring is the sail away from Tortola the sights going through the channels from up front are worth the effort to stay near the smoke. To me The Haven sun deck is actually big enough on the Escape to avoid the smoke the rest of the trip!

I guess I am 1 of those inconsiderate haven smokers that smoke in the 1 & only DESIGNATED area.... lol There are plenty of loungers ( a lot) OUTSIDE of the smoking area to view the sail away if you dont smoke. There is even glass partitions that seperate the smoking and NON smoking areas. I have been in the Haven a few times and I prefer to watch sail away from the water front bars or at the pool to dance. Nothing is going on up in the haven. Enjoy the haven it really is HEAVEN!

Bliss seems to handle that problem. The Haven sundeck on 19 is more than twice as big as Escape's

Smoking in the designated smoking areas? The nerve. Next thing you know, people will be drinking in the bars. Then it'll be dogs and cats living together....mass hysteria.

On some ships, like the Breakaway, the Havens sailaway party is held out there. Maybe those who smoke should catch the hint that they should put away their cigs for the duration of the party. Kinda like the casino where smoking is permitted, but if there is an organized event like a tournament, it becomes a smoke free area.

I'd venture to guess that a simple sign saying something like "for the duration of the gathering, we kindly ask you to refrain from smoking" would take care of it. With that said, your irritation should be directed towards NCL. I can't blame anyone for just following the rules. Contact NCL if you want this one changed.

FWIW, using your logic, the party-goers should take the hint that since the party is held in a smoking area they should go away if they don't like the smoke.

Seriously, calling someone inconsiderate because they are doing what is allowed in an area of the ship designated for their activity? As a non-smoker, I'm not a fan of inhaling tons of cigarette smoke, but I think that going into a smoking area and expecting smokers to refrain just because I'm there is a lot more inconsiderate than lighting up in a designated smoking area.
