My husband thinks I am crazy but I was wondering if there were any bars on the Solstice that would be showing football. College football starts the weekend I will be on my cruise. Big game between Virginia Tech and WVU on ABC prime time Sunday the 3rd. Just wondering.

Sports are usually broadcast in the Casino Bar and on stateroom TVs. Everything is by satellite feed so games will vary based on location.

They do get ESPN and ESPN 2. One of those might be the international version. On our Adriatic cruise in mid-July, one of them had college football programming. It looked like SEC Network, but not sure. You might luck out on this one if the international ESPN shows the ABC game.

In our experience speak to the pool bar staff about any game you are interested in and they will find out for you if it is being shown on board or will be available for watching at a local bar!! They always know more than guest relations or the entertainment staff!

As UK football (soccer) fans we often find our cruises clash with key games...often not shown on board but the staff will have advised us on where best to view!

Another channel that I've seen on board is Sport24. You can view their schedule online, just select the ship icon and adjust the times according to where you are. Sport24 shows the English Premier League.

Our experience has been that when on a Caribbean trip you might get an NFL or college game in the Casino bar. Seating is very limited and it has been hit or miss on the game you get. When in the Med we did see NFL playoff games in the room - albeit they started very late given the time change. We did not find regular season NFL or college games when in the Med with the rare exception and those were shown in the Casino bar. The ESPN coverage is mostly the international version in both locations. While we don't go on vacation to sit and watch television it would be nice to have better sports options in the rooms and a bar with decent amounts of seating- both international football (soccer) and US NFL / college games. However, I know that this comes down to licensing fees and it's unlikely to happen.

Our experience in trying to enjoy US based sports is usually an exercise in frustration. If you like soccer or rugby, you may get lucky. All else, a crapshoot at best. You can check with the Communications Officer and ask for specific games, but most of the time you won't get them. Very frustrating. Never really understood why their satellite channels are so limited, and why they can't be a little more accommodating of their US cruisers on occasions when they are a very large majority of cruisers on the ship (which can be true on many Caribbean cruises). Sailing with a ship of mostly Europeans? Fine, put on soccer, rugby, whatever. But I have been on many cruises in the Caribbean where more than 50% of the cruisers were from the US and all we ever got was soccer or rugby. Missed March Madness and heaven knows what else. Oh well - first world problems for sure

Highly unlikely that game will be televised. If a game is being televised internationally such as an NFL Playoff Game, then it will most likely be available. The television coverage is not CBS, ABC, etc.

I feel your pain. We were on a transatlantic in 2013 and would miss the Iron Bowl. Knowing the game was on CBS, we asked over and over (in advance) that the ship's satellite pick up the CBS feed. We were finally told that they couldn't. (I know they can, but that's another beef for another day.) That day, the ship did have ESPN. So we only saw the remarkable "Pick Six" when ESPN broke into its game and showed the replay. This was at 11:30 pm local time in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.

THIS.

A college football game, unless a championship game, is rarely seen. Even ESPN will show things of interest internationally ( soccer) over American football. Best to dvr it while gone and watch when you get home. OR....keep informed of scoring via the internet. X will do their best to have it available if it IS a big big game. For state rivalries...no. Sorry.

I gave up searching for American sports at sea and finding only soccer and cricket. Now pay up for the unlimited internet package. Many colleges stream audio for their games. I get video for many games online through my cable provider (Cablevision) and audio for pretty much any game / any sport on Sirius XM.

We have been on a couple long Fall cruises and watching college football is very important to us. We have a 21 day this Oct/Nov. When the game/games we want to see are not available, we buy unlimited internet and spend Saturdays streaming and trying to decide who's turn it is to go get a beer from the bar!:D
