Anyone regretted getting Cheers??

Recommended Posts

So you cant order doubles? Can you order two drinks at a time?
No you cannot order doubles or two drinks at a time. If you want a double you have to wait 5 minutes and have them add the 2nd shot in your drink. You have to wait 5 minutes between drinks.

Don't regret at all. I like knowing that the bar tab is something I've already taken care of and don't have to worry about.

My wife and I have gotten Cheers on our past cruises and are doing so again on our upcoming 8 day cruise. She's diabetic and will only have 1 glass of wine or one vodka-tonic per day. However, she drinks lots of bottled water, diet sodas and will "share" a milkshake or two with our kids each day.

I don't drink that much at home, because..well..life! However, I'm on vacation! I get a specialty coffee or two in the morning, 2 large bottles of water, mimosa or bloody mary with breakfast, 2 vodka-cranberries or mojito's or beers by pool, pre dinner glass of wine, dinner wine, and some kind of tasty martini during the show. Average around 10 drinks per day. I'm not walking around smashed, I'm active, in good health, playing with my kids and enjoying life.

It works for us. :)

On our last 3-day Imagination cruise we purchased Cheers, but won't during our upcoming, same 3 day in March.

Some of the reasons:

We're driving this time, so we'll bring 2 bottles of wine. (Very poor selections by the glass)

The wife and I really enjoyed the "Frog" beer which is reasonably priced

Ordered a 12 pack of water ($4.95) plus receiving 2 large bottles being Gold Status.

Bartenders refused to use premium liquors I requested in frozen and named specialty drinks

Difficult to get unopened sodas from bartenders to take back to the cabin. (We'll carry on a couple of 12 packs this time)

What if I want a couple of shots? or a bucket of beers? - Don't like the restrictions, I'm not a child and have the money to buy them.

15 drink maximum - Didn't exceed it last cruise, but don't like the idea I'll be cut-off when those without Cheers wouldn't be.

No Steakhouse aboard, therefore some of the best premium liquors were unavailable, and Alchemy Bar doesn't open until 5:30

My wife and I are going on our first cruise in February. I bought the cheers! package. I have talked to a friend who had a bar tab of 1800. My wife had a co-worker on their first cruise had a 2000 tab. We are not big drinkers, but I can have a good time. I would rather spend the 800 and come up short ( not really worrried about "getting my money's worth") than have a bill like that. Their tabs were on 7-8 day cruises. After this cruise if we like cruising (which I am sure we will) I will know if it is worth it for us to purchase on future cruises.

Very good thought process! "Worth" is different to many, seems like you totally understand Cheers and didn't overthink it.

It is peace of mind not seeing the Bar bill at the end of Vacation.

The last time I actually "checked" our spending daily we were well past the cost.

Yeah the last time we cruised when my life partner was pregnant we purchased cheers and they didn't allow her to order alcoholic beverages despite the ok from her doctor who reasoned that it is better for her to drink in moderation than to go through withdraw. Carnival thinks it's in the medical advice business i guess.

This was the one issue we had with CHEERS. I've read where others say they never had a problem getting bartenders to use premium when ordering; however, we had the same problem you did. If I asked for premium (let's say Grey Goose) when ordering a "named" drink like The Cruiser, I was told (by more than one bartender) that they could not substitute the liquors - they had to go by the "recipe". They would let me get Patron if I ordered a Margarita or Grey Goose when ordering a Screwdriver - but it was a no go on their name drinks - particularly any of the frozen drinks.

I tried at several different bars the last few times I've had CHEERS and not one bartender would budge - but several years ago on the Breeze one of the bartenders at the adult pool always gave me premium liquor regardless of what I ordered.

My husband and I are drinkers. We just got back from a 7 day cruise and had the CHEERS package. It was definitely worth it for us. We topped out almost every day. We found a good bartender and used him to get most of our drinks. When I hit my 15 he let me buy 2 more after that so I definitely wasn't stopped. I think it is the bartenders discretion. If they think you can handle more they will allow you to get more. Granted we were tipping the bartender very generously. He even commented that he poured me a doubles a couple times and I could still handle the drinks.

We always get Cheers for the piece of mind plus our daughter gets a lot of water and coke drinks with it. One thing to beware. At the end of our last cruise I was checking the bill of all our purchases and there was a $15 bar charge from MDR on one of the nights. I had to go to guest services to have it taken off because they somehow didn’t charge to cheers. We drank every night in MDR but just had that one night of mistake on our bill so please check over everything because mistakes can be made.

I noticed I posted BEFORE my cruise. Now that it's after my cruise, I am so glad I purchased Cheers! I paid for it before the cruise so I got a discount. I paid for it with a gift card too so that was an additional discount. And there was no shock at the end of the cruise.

I liked grabbing bottles of water for our excursions. I wished I had tried the milkshakes but we didn't get a chance to.

I liked that I could order a drink to try but if I didn't like it I could get one I knew I liked. I liked that if a frozen drink became watered down I could get another one.

Someone posted an Excel spreadsheet recently to help if you're looking to figure out your costs, but as others have said, you also have to factor in the "experience" of having Cheers. For me that experience was not being surprised by a bill and being able to try new things. I looked at our costs and while each single day we may have not "gotten our money's worth" it was still worth it to me because of the experience and no surprise bill at the end.

I only drink vodka and gin but they have all the top shelf liquors. So for vodka they have Grey Goose and Belvedere and they had Hendrick's for Gin. But I noticed they also have Chivas regal and Johnny Walker - all the ones red and black and maybe blue for scotch and Don Julio and Patron tequila. The Don Julio one is about $13 a shot.

I have never regretted it but my husband has a couple of times. First because of all the hangovers lol but mostly, a couple times he hasn't felt great and wasn't in a big drinking mood. FOr me, I am usually not a drinker. But when I cruise, that all changes. I like to try different cocktails and martinis and if I don't like the drink I don't feel like I have to drink it like I do if I just paid $10 for it. It sounds like a lot of drinking to get your money's worth but it really isn't. Plus it's so great to get really good coffee and tea at the coffee bar. Also fancy coffees after dinner is nice.

For me, I usually get a Kiss on the Lips which is mango puree and peach schnapps. I'll have that sometimes with breakfast, then a fancy cocktail or two with lunch, then a Tom Collins or two during the afternoon. A glass of wine with dinner. Then I get a tea from the coffee shop after dinner. Then I'll have a drink or two at the piano bar, end the night with a shot or two and that adds up to around 10 drinks which would total around $100.

We are not heavy drinkers in the "real" world but in "vacation" world we are (our first cruise we spent more on our bar tab then the cruise itself lol....its not as hard as you think to get your moneys worth....and we always do...say you have a coffee in the morning, a few drinks by the pool during the day..a pre dinner drink, a dinner drink, a drink at the show and a few at the casino or bar in the evening...add a few water bottles in there and you have def got your moneys worth...but even more then the value I really like the peace of mind it gives me...I am not counting my hubby drinks...I am not checking the TV for balances....I am more likely to try a new drink because if I don't like it who cares etc etc etc.....we have never regretted it....

We have never bought Cheers and never plan on doing it. I always try different drinks and if I don't like them, they always make me another one and they never charge me for it. I have sent a drink back 3 times because it was not made to my liking and ended up with 3 free ones while only paying for 1. We never keep track of how much we are drinking and have never spent over what it would cost if we got Cheers. We also do not drink coffee, soda, milkshakes etc. Last cruise was a 5 day and we only spent $249 between the both of us on liquor, and we drank generously--we also got a few free drinks from the bartenders (as we tip very generously). You would be surprised what a smile and a wink will do for you.

Carnival wins when people buy cheers. If they didn't win , it would not be offered. Think about it. Carnival feels they are making more money by selling you Cheers than they would if you bought every drink individually.

Soooo-- if they win, who do you think loses ?
