Dawn aft v aft PH

We have been lucky enough to stay in the Haven and loved it. We have booked a b2b on the dawn sailing from San Juan. Right now we are in an aft balcony and considering upgrading to an aft ph. Are they worth paying twice as much ? I have looked at YouTube and the cabin looked more like a mini suite and the balcony looks the same as a reg aft. Any input is appreciated.

While I can't speak to the aft cabins I have been in Dawn class standard cabins as well as a SG penthouse, OS and the GV. I don't feel the suite benefits on NCL smaller ships, such as Dawn, are all they necessary, while the higher suites do get you some special attention from the concierge. Shows, restaurant reservations and getting off the ship early are not that difficult, just book Tepannyaki asap once on board. If you are committed to the aft then disregard the following: I would wait and chance the upgrade bid system, most likely ending in a deeply discounted deck 12 suite.

We were on the DAWN aft penthouse and our friends were next door in regular balcony. Very little difference between the two rooms other than a little more space in the penthouse cabin.. like an extra 2 foot width the length of the cabin. Other than the butler and access to the concierge for reservations it really wasn't worth the extra cost for us. Hope this helps

One other benefit to the ph suite is that you have a wider balcony with 2 padded loungers, instead of chairs. Not necessarily worth the upgrade, unless you spend lots of time on your balcony.

Thank you for your replies. I think we will stay in a reg aft balcony. The suite perks are tempting but we are platinum so we have internet hours as a perk and we chose the dining drinks package. So paying twice as much for a few more feet of space and a butler and concierge does not make sense. Thank you.

Now you have me thinking again;) My DH loved having Cagneys for breakfast on the Pearl when we had a PH. We had a fwd PH and the balcony was huge!! If I am going to pay double the price then maybe a fwd PH again....Since we are doing a B2B we are looking at $11,000 as opposed to $5500. I have so much to decide, good thing we are not sailing until March 2019:o

I Love the aft Dawn PH (deck 10), but NOT for $11k.. I/m/o there just aren’t enough perks without Haven to make it worth it...

On Dawn, unless you go with the OS/DOS/GV/SC the other suites are nice but as you noted, a lot like a mini.

 

If you were doing say a PC trip then a front or aft PH would be nice. The real benefits come with things like Cagneys for B/L. Other than tender port never been escorted on/off ship other than first and last day.

 

Deck 12 entry level suites are the best bargain usually.

I would make my decision based on how much you like a more private breakfast/lunch venue and the value/need for expedited boarding/tenders, so it might be very dependent on itinerary. If you're not rushing to get off the boat in each port, or you don't really care about suite breakfast/lunch/snacks, that will make a difference.

 

I don't really use Cagney's for lunch more than a couple of times in a week, don't eat half the stuff the butler brings, and priority tenders don't matter at all on the Bermuda trip. But when we did a back to back on the Dawn to Quebec, being in a suite paid off BIG TIME when it came to customs/immigration on our return (just before stopping in Maine). The line for non-suite passengers stretched around the ship, as bad as disembarkation day. Then there was a delay, which means people were in line for an hour before the line even started moving.

 

Those of us in a suite had been escorted to a lounge to wait comfortably, and when the process began, we were taken to our own customs/immigration officer, and basically paraded by him in about 10 minutes, tops. We were done, and the main line had barely moved. I'm sure it easily took another 90 minutes or more for the process to be completed, but we were free from that stress/hassle.

 

So it all comes down to measuring your priorities. Priority escort is the highest perk in my mind - to others it doesn't mean much.

I've cruise in aft penthouses many times and have never felt any vibration.
