catspaws65 Posted August 15, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 15, 2017 what is the best way to get there? We doing a trolly tour for 2 hrs in the am back to the ship by 1030. I wanted to got to Maho for couple hrs on my own. I know the Trolly stops in Town, can I just tell them I going to Maho not back to the ship, I also thinking of dropping the Trolly Tour since they won't go to all the sights they were going to and just do Maho and the town any advice be great Thanks

However, to take the bus, you've got to get to the city center either by water taxi ($7 all day pass), or walking about a mile.
Bratface1005 Posted August 15, 2017 #4 Share Posted August 15, 2017 Do the bus, or public transit. They are 2 a person one way. Make sure to ask if they are the public bus. it is so worth it to see the planes. just don't stand in the way of the jet stream. That isn't worth it. The buses ride along the road two parallel roads back from the beach promenade. There are lots of minibuses and they will have signs in the window for Maho. Allow plenty of time as the roads can be busy on the way back. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Rare bobmacliberty Posted August 15, 2017 #6 Share Posted August 15, 2017 just don't stand in the way of the jet stream. That isn't worth it. I can personally confirm this. I decided to start small and stand behind a private jet (on the beach side of the road, not at the fence) rather than one of the big commercial planes. Private jets still have very powerful engines! Hat, sunglasses, and my body went flying. Sacrificed my body to ensure that the camera and lens around my neck were not damaged. Would I do it again? Maybe. :p
OCruisers Posted August 16, 2017 #7 Share Posted August 16, 2017 Not our favorite place to go but it you want to taking a taxi is the easiest. ;)

We are in port from 8am -5pm!! Would an hour be sufficient?
Sheal Posted August 22, 2017 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2017 I would probably plan to leave Maho about 1 1/2 hours before your all aboard time. Ride should be about 25 minutes but with the narrow roads, an accident could really delay things. You could spend any extra time checking out the shops or getting a frozen drink at one of the bars right outside the security gates. Before the new bridge was built we had one experience where it took close to an hour to get back. We were fine but the other people in the taxi van were leaving 1/2 hour before us. brookie848 Posted August 23, 2017 #11 Share Posted August 23, 2017 We would prefer not to go to the Sunset Bar. Do all taxis automatically drop you on that side of Maho Beach? Or should we ask to be dropped near the casino (or another destination on that side of things) and then walk?

I think there is a turning point at the end of the beach near the Sunset Bar. We go off the bus(taxi) at the roundabout. Sheal Posted August 23, 2017 #13 Share Posted August 23, 2017 I would tell the taxi driver that you want to go to the Driftwood rather than Sunset. That way you would not have to walk the beach back, it can be congested with others walking and there isn't much of a walkway to start. On a couple of trips to Mullet I have been in taxis where they stopped right at the split in the road (Sunset to the left, Casinos and Mullet to the right) as some people wanted to get off. We are going to try to arrange a tour of the Sonesta properties on that side of Maho Beach for a potential return land trip. I'd also prefer to avoid that walkway -- it was crazy the last time we were there. There aren't a ton of ships in port the day we are scheduled, but there will be between 8,000-9,000 passengers between the three ships.
