No more playing cards?

We were on the Carnival Splendor a few weeks ago and went to guest services to get a pack of playing cards. The crew member looks a little flustered and said they did not have any. She said that she thought the shipment had not come in.

Is this another Carnival cutback? Has anyone else experienced this on another ship?

Last I knew you ask someone at the pursers desk in the casino. The free playing cards are used cards from table games in the casino. once they have been used for a certain time frame they are replaced with a new deck and the used ones hole punched and are at the pursers desk if they have any. its supposed to be 1 deck per passenger per cruise.

Upon boarding, while the ship was still in port I always went to the purser and asked if there is a place I can get some playing cards knowing the company store isn't open yet.:halo:

I always got a nice deck of Carnival cards. Have several decks today. They are slightly smaller and I love them.

I just love the cards (if they are the official Carnival Cruise Line cards) I bring them home. When I travel with one of my friends we play Gin Rummy 24/7. Always gave me a deck when I asked. Maybe because I'm Platinum, I don't know. At any rate, if they no longer do that I'll have a new entry to the collection of WHAT-CARNIVAL-USED-TO-DO. A collection dedicated to what a corporation can do when it reduces itself to the lowest common denominator.

playing cards? seriously? Hector sending me your paypal address and I'll send you a dollar. What people complain about is unbelievable

Being overly defensive may make some people read complaints in what is actually an every day question...

So I understand both sides here. On one hand it is probably silly to complain about not getting chocolates or decks of cards but on the other hand it is a slippery slope. All of that being said, we got our cards for a dollar (or two I honestly can't remember) in the casino on the Sunshine in August because we didn't want to wait in line for the free cards at guest services. The cards were used and had the corners knotched so they couldn't be reinserted into play in the casino - which as you can imagine is a standard practice in the casino industry.

The knotched cards that we purchased were of higher quality than the free guest services cards but the knotching made them very difficult to shuffle and cumbersome to hold. I would have gladly paid for the guest services cards instead of getting the nasty paper cut I got from the casino cards. Just my two cents.

Just WOW Hector ! The deck of playing cards was so important to you that you posted a thread both here and on FaceBook ?? And them being out of a deck of cards for you is a deal breaker ? Really ??

Or were you just looking for any excuse to complain no matter how insignificant the issue ?

I see no reason not to believe that they were out of cards and waiting for a new shipment .

Carnival tried selling decks of cards for a dollar and received so much grief that they resumed the freebies after a few weeks. Similar to how they stopped the shrimp cocktail app and then were forced to return it to the menu.

If you are on a casino fare, you might find a deck with the images of the casino directors and staff in your cabin.

He sure went full on drama to John Heald on Facebook. GMAB. It's a deck of cards for goodness sake. Plus he already knew from here that it wasn't a cutback. The ship was actually just out of cards like he was told.

First, I did not post the Facebook message. That is not even my Facebook name.

Second I was merely curious for reasons already posted. I love Carnival and do not sail other lines. Perhaps I should not have posted the "cutbacks" line. I did not think anyone would take it all that seriously.
