dstables Posted September 22, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 22, 2017 I have been told the Princess is adjusting the Canadian exchange rate they will use for their pricing to 1.20!😊 That's a 10% savings for us Canadians! This is on new bookings but if you have a booking with a refundable deposit then you can re-fare at this new rate.

Rare Waynetor Posted September 22, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 22, 2017 This is great news - long overdue. It's too late for some of our cruises but hopefully we can make changes for some. We are on the 2019 world cruise and this will make several thousand difference.

calvin31 Posted September 22, 2017 #5 Share Posted September 22, 2017 Just wondering how this changes things for current bookings not fully paid for...prices are listed in USD and we aren't billed until 90 days out. So we save money on the exchange to our credit card at that point but why would we re-fare? Or are you thinking the fares themselves will drop? We have paid a deposit on a Hawaii cruise in 2018 so I'm definitely interested in saving money if I can. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

calvin31 Posted September 22, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 22, 2017 When I look at the personalizer the balance owing is showing in CAD. Charges onboard are going to be in USD. Anything I can do to take advantage of this exchange rate update? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Anything I can do to take advantage of this exchange rate update? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk When the price is adjusted on Monday call either Princess or your TA whoever you booked with and see what the new price would be to refare. If your original booking is under a "sale" you would lose whatever perts go with the sale. So you do have to do a comparison between what your current booking is offering you and what you will get when you refare. Sometimes when the fare goes down it is not always a savings to re-fare if you are going to lose perts like prepaid gratituties or OBC. Yours deposit on you current booking needs to be refundable to re-fare. Good luck!
calvin31 Posted September 22, 2017 #9 Share Posted September 22, 2017 I can also just do another 'test' booking on Monday to see what the pricing would be now, correct? Funny thing is when I did that just now the price is actually $400 higher than when I booked and the 3 for free sale still applies....odd. cdngrl Posted September 23, 2017 #10 Share Posted September 23, 2017 this is great news and about time! the 30% exchange was pricing me out paying in CAD (which my FCD are in). thank you for the heads up! how did you find out about it?

cherrypop Posted September 23, 2017 #12 Share Posted September 23, 2017 Would be nice if for those of us who have already booked and made final payment if they would reduce the rate if we wanted to buy OBC or specialty restaurants etc. I know another cruise line when they did this lowered the rate which was nice. FCD's can be swapped from USD to CAD or vice versa - on request and if you are going to immediately apply them to a booking. Just a FYI for future. I buy all my FCD's in USD on board as I am most often - all the time lately - booking in USD with a US TA where I get a discount. Not going to get that in Canada. It would be better to buy USD when exchange is favorable and pay cruise in USD. Granted this 1.20 is pretty good while it lasts.

There's a number of US TA's that can quote in CDN funds and still give their awesome discounts that they give on US pricing! and i was going to mention this to steelers36 also--i have a US agent who can book me in either currency and gives a discount when booked in either currency. i may be calling her on monday! Yes, I have run into that also, but the exchange rate the US agency uses may not be that great. And I would have the discount too. It may just take hunting around for the right agency if one wants to work in CAD. I haven'd found any situation that suits me as yet. If I have USD or can buy it myself and just use that to pay off the USD Visa charge for the cruise, it works just as well, or better. Everything else on the cruise is in USD anyway. Although I guess you might get excursions at a good rate depending on timing of booking - like 20% is attractive right now.
Island wannabe Posted September 25, 2017 #17 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Weird - I have one cruise in Feb 2018 that the exchange has changed to $1.20, and one in aug 2018 where it is still sitting at $1.30 - of course this is my most expensive cruise where a change of 10% will make a big difference. Wonder if they are still working through the updates?

phabric Posted September 25, 2017 #19 Share Posted September 25, 2017 My agent is working to adjust my booking for July 2018 to the new rate, saving over $1,135/cabin. I loose $150 OBC but with the new rate makes up for the OBC lost. I will purchase my own OBC at $1.20 under Gifts.
Josie2 Posted September 25, 2017 #20 Share Posted September 25, 2017 I have a cruise booked for March 2018. Price has dropped but the rate to pre pay gratuities or purchase OBC has not. Mud_Shark Posted September 25, 2017 #21 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Just called Princess to re-fare our 2018 Fall cruise. Ruth at Princess helped do it in under 5 minutes. She did say that she had to create a new booking in order to get the other items like purchasing of OBC to change to the new exchange rate. Just checked, and any onboard purchases including OBC come through at 1.20. And, since we booked under 3 for free initially anyway - no loss of perks. Very good deal. Does anyone know how these rates are calculated ? Sent from my iPad using Forums The exchange tied to your booking is what is tied to everything else that is prepurchased with that booking. If you refare or cancel your current booking and rebook then everything prepurchased for this booking would be at the new exchange rate of 1.20. Prepurchased beverage package, coffee cards, prepaid gratituties, OBC, casino credits would all be 1.20.
cherrypop Posted September 25, 2017 #25 Share Posted September 25, 2017 This happened to us a few years ago the cruise line (not Princess) dropped their exchange rate. For those of us who had already made final payment the exchange rate dropped for anything which could be purchased before we left at the lower rate including OBC. Not good customer service on Princess's part as far as I am concerned.
